Just noticed Garry Malley is no longer on the Squad page - someone said he was retiring but I was sceptical about it.

Think I read somewhere he enjoyed the professional experience and was leaving as now 35 but hoped to find a Junior team to play for.

Got my season ticket ordered, just waiting for a manager, striker etc and start of season. Particularly with Aidrie being nearer to me than Livingston.

Maley and Alexander now retired.

Alexander off to Dundee Utd as GK coach, gutted - https://www.dundeeunitedfc.co.uk/news/5664/NEIL-ALEXANDER-BECOMES-GOALKEEPING-COACH.html

Really don't fancy Kelly as first choice this season.

That's ruined my day. Interested to see who we get in to challenge Kelly then.

I don't see how we survive in this league with Kelly as first choice. No offence to the lad but I'm not sure how he'll have improved in a year at Murray Park playing no meaningful games to the point where he's good enough for the top flight.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO....I thought Alexander would want another shot at the top flight...absolutely gutted about that. Nice that he started and ended his playing career with us but I was hoping for at least another year.

I'd be worried if he was our first choice in the Championship tbf - Good signing as a backup, but no confidence at all if he's going to be our first choice.

He did by the sounds of it but probably got tired of waiting around for us to appoint a manager. Good chance United will be offering more money as a coach than we could as a player, and they might have told them the deal was off the table after x amount of days so he's had to make a decision.

I know we were all more or less expecting relegation anyway but I'm starting to get the fear we'll get some proper pumpings considering the mess that this summer has been so far.

Don't worry, it'll be some Championship jobber or Kenny Miller.

Given up hope of a Hardie or Halkett now tbh. I can't really blame as there's no indication yet who the manager is going to be?!

That "Can't guarantee what or who" in the tweet makes me think it might not be a player, so could be a manager but imagine we'd have heard the rumours etc by now.

It could also be Ryan Hardie on a season long loan with an option to buy for around 50p, that would make me happy.

Or it'll be a fucking mascot.

Unfortunately the uncertainty could be very damaging - without a contract these boys are effectively unemployed; they need some assurance of income as I'm sure they have bills to pay.

Nicky Cadden stays. Happy enough with that.

No idea about Blues but it looks like Lee Miller rates him.

Expected Cadden to stay.

Hugely disappointed by Neil’s departure. Especially as I now expect that Kelly will be the number 1 & Pettigrew will be the back up.

Speak for yourself, I was pretty confident we could stay up. If Halkett stays and we get a decent striker then we'll be back on track, Alexander is a disappointment though, he was such a rock in goals and his confidence spread to our defence.

Pleased Cadden has signed up, reckon he's got potential to improve and do well for us, had a horrendous start with his shoulder injury flaring up again, but had a good end to the season and I think he will shine in the Premiership with a full pre season under his belt.

Bursting to see Jack Hamilton playing for the first team, really looking like the next big player that's come from our youth team, could be as prolific a scorer as Griffiths.

Two minds about Alexander - yes he's a great goalkeeper and would have been an excellent coach for others but, at the end of the day, you can not stop the passage of time (believe me; I've tried - and given up).

Whether we would have got promoted last season with Kelly instead of Alexander; well actually i think we would have but it probably would have been a closer run thing. I actually can't recall Kelly saving any penalties when he was with is but in many other respects he was better than DJ.

Also the premiership has some fast aggressive forwards (more so than the championship in my opinion) so he'll need to be just as strong against them.

Pettigrew is only 18 which is still exceptionally young in goalkeeping terms. Maybe he deserves a couple of shots sitting on the bench but, if Kelly was out for any length of time I think it would be a huge risk to have him as out only other goalkeeper.

Also a huge amount depends on Halkett and whether he stays. With his experience and leadership ability he can make the goalkeeper's job a whole lot easier.

We got away with having only one goalie for the last two seasons. (Lets face it, Maley was just a name on the team sheet really). In the SPL if we don't have a proper back up we'd be as well throwing in the towel now.

Am I right in saying that emergency loans are not an option in the Premiership, either?

Hibs got a few of those, can't remember if it was just when they were in the Championship though, Stokes was one. I'd have liked Alexander to have stayed another season and helped Kelly on to be ready to take over next season, he isn't as comfortable dealing with pass backs as Alexander and could've really benefitted from being coached by him in dealing with them.
