    October Fixtures Empty October Fixtures

Post by Liviforever Sun Sep 22, 2024 2:39 pm

What a big month coming up for us in the League, with a game against ICT in the tinpot cup too.

Top 3 all play one another, Ayr have Falkirk on the 5th (while we have a tricky game against Partick Th away), before we play Falkirk on the 8th, then we play Ayr on the 19th, and in between that we play ICT on the 12th. Adding to that, all 3 of our league games are away from home.

Going to be a very tough month for us, but really looking forward to it, to see how we stand after playing the top 2 teams in the league. Having Falkirk 3 days after playing Partick is favouring Ayr, through no fault of our own, or Falkirk's really (they're being punished for getting through the LC rounds), we're having to squeeze in a game midweek. I'd rather have had the ICT cup game midweek, where we could've put out some fringe players and had our strongest XI rested for the Falkirk game, but we've a strong squad and 5 or 6 of our fringe players are as good, or better than the starting XI ones.

Falkirk looked excellent today until Celtic’s rapid fire second equaliser & 3rd; and even then it wasn’t game over until the 4th & the 5th hopefully knocked their confidence a bit.

Falkirk losing to Raith has us only a point behind them now, and 2 games in hand to make the 4pts up on Ayr, sets us up nicely going into these Oct fixtures. All going well, we'll be sitting top of the league by the end of October.

In fact with Ayr playing Falkirk on Saturday coming, and us playing Partick, we could see the winner of Tues game against Falkirk go top of the league.

Was hoping for 4pts from our first 2 games this month, really could do with beating Ayr to keep chasing Falkirk, and hoping they slip up again.
Falkirk play Partick on Sat while we're playing a cup game, would be great if Partick takes pts off them too now, then if we beat Ayr it'll be the exact same pts as us, playing the same games.

So far so good then, we drew with Falkirk, both of us drew with Partick, Falkirk beat Ayr, so if we can win against Ayr it'll be the exact same pts for both of us in those 3 fixtures.

Falkirk are now 4pts ahead but played a game more than us, and Ayr are 2pts ahead and have played a game more, we really need to beat Ayr to get above them and keep the pressure on Falkirk, hoping they slip up again against Accies on Fri night.

Also reading their match thread they were brilliant again creating numerous chances but couldn't score more than one goal. Been the story of their season, they'll keep dropping pts because they aren't sticking their chances away, because they haven't a decent enough striker.

Ok so that's 5pts from 3 difficult away games, where all 3 have very good home form, and we're sitting in 2nd place now with 2 more games to go in October.

Both us and Falkirk are at home to Fife teams, would expect us both to be picking up 3pts, then we've a midweek away game in Dunfermline, win that and we'd prob be just 1 point behind Falkirk having both played 11 games.
