Wouldn't describe it as a pasting really - Raith were poor; really poor; relying on a counter attack philosophy but we seemed totally incapable of putting the goal in the net.

We were very poor as well, tbh. Pittman and Hips probably 2 of the better performers, but they just ran until they hit a brick wall. Longridge was awful, Buchanan fluffed 2 chances from about 4 yards. Georgiev looked lively when he came on, and Glen played some decent stuff on the wing, but his final ball was rotten most of the time. Cole and Sives were indeed shaky a lot of the time and looked very uncomposed. Gallagher was OK in spells. Mullen largely poor, some decent runs but he doesn't lift his head up enough and always loses out.

I've had enough of people slagging off big shags, and shouting abuse at him from the stands. Funny that he came to life last season when we played it on the deck and moved it around quickly. Raith packed the midfield in really tight, and we played with little pace and width which is needed to give a player like White service. Just cause he's tall doesn't mean to say we bomb it on his head and let him nod them all in, especially when he's being tightly marked all the time. Look at his goal last week, such a clean volley. Some people would do well to remember that without his performance against Cowdenbeath kept us up last season, and he was our top scorer. He's a talented STRIKER, not a target man. He's one of our best players and if you can't see that then you don't know enough about football and you'd be better off fucking off and watching rugby or something.

Very poor today and I feel this will be very much the same as last season - we won't be as lucky if we play like that more often.

The score says we got a pasting but that doesn't tell the whole story.

They scored against the run of play as the ball fell nicely to Stewart following a rather dodgy free kick. Re the penalty I didn't see the hand ball because I was following play which went on until the ball went out as I thought for a goal kick. We were sitting behind the goal yet no one could understand why, if it was a penalty, it wasn't given straight away. What ref plays advantage in the penalty box. Well Matt Northcroft does apparently. After that Raith basically sat in and held on to what they had while hitting us on the break and that's how they got their third at the death. DJ hardly had a save to make.

It was just one of those days where we got none of the breaks and the referee was a bit dodgy.

True Lexi, that is what frustrates me, we seem to hit it up to White (who we alll know is woefull in the air) and hope it sticks. He did nothing else today except for try to give Sheerin stick when he came on. There was no invention in the final third. I dont think Pitman can play in Cm, he needs to be further forwad.

Pass marks only for Hippo, and to be honest if Gallacher wasnt playing it could have been 6/7.

Brutal result, semi decent away day.

Durnford wrote:Sives was poor but Cole was worse and White added pretty much diddly squat.

First goal was a cock up against the run of play; second was a penalty that no-one other than the linesman seemed to understand; third was a counter attack when we'd been pressing for a goal.

Player for player we beat Raith in virtually every position on the pitch but too many unforced errors and missed passes and wastefulness in front of goal.

Don't want to single people out particularly but Sives and Cole should not be getting an automatic start; particularly bearing in mind who we have on the bench.

Pretty much agree with all of this D, in fact everyone has posted good accounts of the game.

I was a few minutes late getting to the game but saw us getting 3 corners in as many minutes when I sat down, we were on the front foot and looking good then got hit with a sucker punch with the ball pinging off several players in a crowded box and landing perfectly for Stewart to prod into the net. The pen was a mystery, just saw Northcroft pointing to the spot and was thinking WTF??? Could see their 3rd coming as we were pushing for a goal and Raith just lumped it up the pitch when they got the chance to try and hit us on the counter, they had a couple of near things with long balls over the top and chasing them down before they finally scored number 3.

Sives couldn't hit a barn door with his passes and Cole near gave away a goal keeping the ball in for the Raith player to take and run at DJ, Gallagher was ok but his balls into the box were too easily defended too, in fact every high ball we played was a waste as either their keeper took it or the CB headed it to him. Please Livi, stop with the high balls hit up to the front players, complete waste of time.

Hippo did his best but was getting more high balls hit out to him on the wing and a lot were just going out of play, or he was having to jump to keep them in and then having a difficult job fending off a Raith player after managing to get the ball under control.

I felt our subs all did well, Spas, Glen and Sheerin, would start all 3 next week, been impressed with Sheerin everytime I see him and he looked more threatening than Buchanan today, good passer of the ball and likes to have a dig. Also linked up well with Glen sending good balls across the pitch to him on the wing and Glen rattled the bar with one of them. Cole had a good effort off the bar too. Just wouldn't go in for us today.

Cole aint a LB and Gallagher aint a RB, epic fail playing them there today but think Longridge was subbed to switch to a back 3 of Cole, Sives & Gallagher 2nd half with Glen coming on to go 5 in midfield so credit to Burchill for changing things.

Buchanan missed a great chance in the 1st half then another one in the 2nd, White had a good chance 2nd half too, got his foot on the ball to guide it towards the goal but unfortunately put it straight at the keeper, Buchanan got onto the ball after a tussle with a defender and hit it straight at the keeper too, and 2nd half he did a fresh air shot at an open goal. I like Buchanan but I'd drop him next week for Sheerin and White to see how they get on, as I think Sheerin looks pretty good playing with White. Would also like to see Glen start against QoS.

Room for improvement but not as bad as the score line shows, just need to start scoring when we have the upper hand, optimistic that the goals will come.

Hmmm. Well I guess if everyone thinks it was a score line that flattered Rovers then it wasn't as bad as it seems to be when you ain't there and only see the score changing and rely on the sky sports app for "commentary".

Incidentally the sky sports app commentary suggested the pen was conceded by Sivex committing a bad foul and being booked for it.

Stats on the BBC site looks like we were the better team, but they also said the penalty was for a foul on Stewart...

That website also says we avoided relegation on goal difference, which is inaccurate, we had more points than Cowdenbeath. We avoided the play offs on GD but as Alloa proved, play offs do not equate to relegation.

Must admit to being pretty frustrated with DJ's goal kicking which seemed to be straight down the middle; I mean what's the point - every time it either got headed back to their goal keeper or hooked out.

Totally agree with Lexi on his views of White, have been saying this for ages,so won't dwell on that.
Also agree with Orco and LF that there wasnt three goals in it and it could have gone either way.

That aside we have a good goalkeeper, good defenders and good strikers.
We lack a strong central midfield we are relying on an under 20 player who was deemed not a good enough prospect by Aberdeen to keep and nurture him and a guy who was playing junior football last season.Pittman has done well but when you have him paired with Gibbons we are very weak. We need to sign Hugo pronto to bring some solidity to that area of the park or we are in for a very long season.

Next area we are sadly lacking is the wide areas especially if we persist with Mullen on the left and Hippo on the right. Mullen is a striker not a wide player,Hippo still needs to create more for me and do like he did in the Petrofac final to slide the ball to Pittman to score a very good goal, he needs to be played on the left side imo. We are encouraging Hippo to be an individual player by playing him on the right when we need him to be a team player.

I feel sorry for the manager because it's obvious he is not being allowed to sign Hugo as it's as clear as the nose of my face we need him badly.

After speaking to one of my mates who was in the directors area yesterday, I now know what the penalty was for. They looked at the footage of Raith TV at half time and it shows Sives handballed it twice before Raith hit the post. Linesman had called the referee about it who then gave the penalty.

That being cleared up, the best part of the game was when everyone just shouted PENALTYYYYYY for about half an hour, then singing about the seagull. Gid bants

Yip. The footage on P&B indicates it was a definite penalty. Crying or Very sad
It is maybe not fair on him but I have just never taken to to Sives. He is big and strong but I often question his football intelligence.

Lexi no wonder mate so am I .

You are so right in saying some folk don't have a clue, there is a guy on the other forum who says we need a striker someone who can finish.

We have three who scored goals last season
    Buchanan 17
    White 15
    Mullen 12
    Nutters the lot of them.

We need a MIDFIELD to create for our three very capable strikers.

100% yes. Yesterday it was either long balls bombed over their heads or our creative midfielders (Hippolyte and Pittman) couldn't get into the final 3rd. Glen's delivery was by and large poor, although I thought Georgiev looked OK. Mullen is good at taking the ball and going on a run and finishing from there, White is more of a poacher/volleyer. Just winds me up when people say we should bin White because he's not particularly good in the air. He isn't supposed to be.

People saying that White is not good in the air are factually wrong too mate, look at last week a high ball from the free kick was met by him and he had an excellent flick on to Sheerin and then ran in and finished. Petrofac final high ball in he scored a good fourth goal. Great ball in from Hippolyte on the LEFT in Cowdenbeath game and a great headed finish. Great finish against Hearts with his head too from a great ball from Kyle. So for someone who is rubbish in the air he has scored a fair few goals with his head.

People just want to see the Bigman win every ball in the air all the time. I stand by my thoughts about White give him decent balls and he is as good as anyone in the league to finish with either foot or his head. Lexi you are right he is one of our better players but he is not liked by some of our support for some strange reason.

Yeah that's because they are in the shadow of our outstanding creative midfield I've pointed out Mullen is striker being played as a wide player. Yes Buchanan should have scored yesterday with his lob created by a flick on from White , who is supposedly poor in the air, and White too should have scored from a cutback from Buchanan.

However we need to be creating more decent opprtunities from midfield. There was one yesterday when White was shouting for a pass on from Pittman when he was in a very good position but Pittman decided to shoot and it was a weak effort.

Felt sorry for Buchanan and White yesterday.

In our last two games we've looked more threatening when Sheerin came on, he's linked up well with White and Glen in our last two games too.

Wonder what deliveries Buchanan got playing for Alloa, because you can't say he's not a goal scorer when he finished 3rd top n the league playing for the 2nd bottom team.

Tbh some Livi fans never seem to be happy no matter who the player is, if he's not scoring with every shot or making brilliant passes every time he gets the ball you'll get people saying he's shit.

Does seem like our strikers need some finishing training though, I've only managed to get to the second Clyde game but going by Twitter and what others have said it seems that we're getting in the right positions but just can't find the back of the net. Hopefully doesn't end up like last season where we only score in 1 game out of about 5.

Sounds like the defence was a bit of a nightmare but hopefully that's sorted when Gordon and Millen come back, means we can have Cole in midfield where he looked better for us last season.

Had to happen didn't it, when everything looked like a Livi win against Raith it all went wrong. I blame Bertie, wasn't enough negativity from him to balance it out. Laughing

Still early days to iron out the kinks and improve on things, we all knew how bad our opening game record was too, no need to hit the doom and gloom button.

It just didn't go our way yesterday but we were by no means outplayed or lacking in creativity to set up chances.
As LL says, once Gordon is back and presumably playing alongside Gallagher as our first choice CB pairing we'll have a more settled looking team, getting the two wingbacks providing balls up to Mullen and Hippo should provide a link to our strikers too, instead of having long balls played up to them.

Firstly I have never shouted abuse at White or any of our other players for that matter - it is hardly productive for a start and our role as supporters is to support the team out there no matter how well we are playing.

I don't think however the problem is the midfield or wide players as there were plenty of balls being played into the centre; its just when our front two got a shot 90% of the time they seemed to miss the target and when they did it was generally a poor shot easily saved.

Given time maybe they'll gel and start to build up a proper partnership but for the last few games it just hasn't worked.

I thought it was a combination of both, we had some good chances for the strikers that didn't come off and a period where we over hit everything up to them for the CB's or keeper to mop up.

Kinda lost our shape after going 2-0 down and Raith sitting in more to hit us on the counter but looked a bit better switching to a back 3 with 5 in the middle and when Sheerin came on we got back on the front foot with shots from Cole and Glen hitting the bar. If just one of those had gone in to give the fans and players a lift it would've made such a difference to the game.

Didn't happen though so just have to dust ourselves down and get back up for the QoS game. A win next week and everything will be ok again *please let us win*. Laughing
