Whilst I sympathise with Caley with their current predicament, sentimentality must take a back seat here i feel.Suspect a few of ours will be rested for this.Gives a welcome chance for others to come in and impress,Green Lawal etc.Davies said he's taking this competition seriously, guess wel find out tomorrow.Caley have nothing to lose so in that hence we can't take them lightly, but I fully expect us to be in the hat for the next round come 4 o'clock tomorrow.Going to be 🥶 cold so wrap up well.Mon the Lions.

Sad to see ICT in such dire straits. Fully expect us to win comfortably but thought that about the 2 cup games against them a couple of years ago.
Can’t make it to this game due to picking up visitors from the airport. Suspect it will be a tougher game than it should be.

Re: Challenge Cup v Caley.
I'll get to the game momentarily.Firstly, why did the club offer to accommodate those fans who wished to attend todays game then show the Scotland game afterwards in the Stadium Bar, only to pull the plug at the last minute.Shambolic, especially as they put it up on the clubs website and various outlets. An apologie should be forthcoming to people who'd made arrangements for said occasion.Bad form.More galling,Scotland have just scored as I write.Anyway to our game. For me all the plaudits should go to Caley. Was sitting in the stand pre soaked and freezing.Livi did virtually nothing to dry me out.We got out of jail thanks to that penalty shoot which was executed superbly.Partick holding Falkirk was a shot in the arm for us no question. But have to say we're still not at the races overall.Still improvement required. But we're through, albeit fortuusly.Rant over, and we move on..

Re: Challenge Cup v Caley.
Don't agree we got out of jail Troy, we dominated the 2nd half and should've had a couple more goals with the balls Sole was putting in, they sat in to counter on us but only had one scramble in our box with a combo of 3 shots hit at our goal, which were saved twice and blocked the 3rd effort. First half was evenish, with Caley hitting a well worked goal, then us scoring 2 equally well worked goals, to go 2-1 up, only to concede from a corner which was annoying.
Thought Lawal had a good game, showed again he should be getting league games. Longstaff was impressive for Caley, he set up their first goal by beating a Livi player, going forward with the ball and then beating another player, then setting up their scorer. Had good skill on the ball bringing it out of defence too, wouldn't mind us trying to sign him.
Finally winning a pen shoot out was good, particularly with Ferguson moaning all game and shouting and swearing for the ref to blow for time up, he obv set them up to sit in for pens 2nd half and maybe nick a goal with a counter, but got what he deserved, papped oot.

At 47:20 on the live feed, Lawal takes the ball on the half turn, drives forward and passes inside. We don’t have any other player with the flair to even try something like that. He should be getting far more game time with what he brings.

Re: Challenge Cup v Caley.
Lawal & Green should both be getting much more game time… unfortunately for them they have too much creativity for wee Davie’s liking.
On the issue of getting out of jail… depends how you look at it… as I said pre-match we should be beating them comfortably but I suspected it would be a tougher game than we expected. Regardless of our second half dominance, we couldn’t find a winner and had to endure the lottery of pens which we managed to negotiate successfully… when was the last time we scored 5 pens in a row? So, in that respect we “got out of jail” as at 2-2 they could have nicked a breakaway winner and on pens it could have gone horribly wrong given our recent propensity for missing them.
The other side of that is that as it was a cup game, form and status often go out the window, which is why cup games throw up more shocks than league games & as is so often said…it doesn’t matter how you get through, only that you do get through, we got through & probably deserved to, so in that respect it wasn’t a case of “getting out of jail”.
Hope we get East Kilbride away next round for trip into the unknown.

Re: Challenge Cup v Caley.
My getting out of jail comment was based as you say Nick, they had a chance to go 3 2 up near the end.The penalty shootout could have gone against us.It didn't, and well done to the lads for getting us through.Genuinly felt for Caley as they put so much into a surprisingly competitive game.My original comment, maybe a bit tough in cheek, but the fact that we could have lost that game would have made an altogether different conversation here.

Re: Challenge Cup v Caley.
Well we still haven't beaten Caley over 90 minutes in seven games now.
Livi playing that style of football makes my eyes bleed. I don't come along to watch them passing back and across for lengthy periods of the game. I get the impression that too many players are taking the easy way out instead of going forward and creating chances. I exclude Pittman and May from that criticism.
I think back nostalgically to the team that took us up to the SPL. They were in the faces of the opposition for the whole game and charged forward at every opportunity.
Hats off to Caley. They weren't afraid to get stuck in and were a penalty kick save away from causing a cup upset.

Re: Challenge Cup v Caley.
It was good sitting watching a game with no pressure, obv would be good to win a trophy, even a diddy one like this, think they've upped the prize money to a respectable amount too, but i wasn't that bothered whether we won or not, just felt relaxed watching us playing and scoring some first half goals. Should've had a 3rd with some of the balls Sole got into the box, and i think we'd have won comfortably, but we didn't, but won on pens.
The League is where our priorities lie, and Falkirk dropped more pts, it's all getting very interesting in October.

Actually don't mind us playing it about, controlling the game for spells, if it was to draw them out and then quickly zip it to feet and get an attack going, i'm hoping we can develop into doing just that. There are signs we're improving and touching on it, a few times we passed it from side to side in Caley's half, or back to the middle of the pitch, to suddenly zip a pass to feet bang in the centre just outside their box and lay it off to another player making a run towards goal. In fact our first goal came from Lawal getting the ball and quickly moving it to Pitts, who took a couple of touches and played in May. Showing we can go quick and direct, just need to do more of it. Also capable of getting it down the flanks, and into the box, when we've players like Lawal, Montano, and Sole.
Whether we'll get good at it or not is still up for question, at the minute we're solid at the back (in the league) but need to get it working better up front to score goals, because we're drawing too many games.

Can’t say I’ve seen the type of play you describe LF, but I missed the game yesterday. That said, why can’t we play that type of game in the league? We don’t and I bet we don’t at Ayr on Saturday.

Need to play the right midfielders first, Green and Lawal. It was Lawal's quick forward pass to Pitts that got us on our way to May's goal. Shinnie on the other hand would've cut back and had a look to see what safe pass he could make. It's all about the speed of the forward pass.

Point I’m making is we don’t play that way because the management don’t allow it.
