    Richard Gough Empty Richard Gough

I occasionally listen to the Si Ferry meets.. podcasts. I listened to the Richard Gough one and was interested to see if he said anything about his time at Livi. He did near the end and talked about Hassan Kachloul who apparently told the guys in the dressing room to "just give me the ball and I will sort things". He also mentioned his relaxed style maybe related to his hash smoking habit. Very Happy

Another interesting revelation was that Gough thought it was a decent team that survived that season and was prepared to stay telling Pearse Flynn it only needed around 3 more signings. Flynn said no and proceeded to get rid of some of the players already there. At that point Gough said he was off. Paul Lambert came in and... the rest is history.

Saw someone on FB saying Gough was the worst manager we've had, he clearly had a touch of amnesia when Lambert took over. Gough was nowhere near our worst manager, he in fact saved us from relegation after Preston's mess at the helm.

Flynn was terrible at choosing managers, about the only one he got right was Gough, then he went and fecked it up again bringing in Lambert. In fact he was as good at appointing managers as he was at winning Court cases, only one of those he ever won was against Massone for the final instalment on the sale of the Livi nitespot, and that was after he was no longer owner of Livi.

I think having listened to Gough, the manager was in fact Archie Knox. Gough was the front man apprentice.

Yeah, Gough & Knox did ok - interesting turn of events on the team though - Flynn was full of blarney, great company because of his blarney but not worth a sook as a football chairman. Kept talking about bringing in new investment & never did.

Strange though that as bad as Lambert was, he has actually made a reasonable career for himself in management down south.

Yeah Lambert used us to cut his managerial teeth on before having a wee purple patch with his next three clubs in England. Seems to have turned sour for him again though.

Knox was doing the same job with Gough that Hay was doing with Leishman, the footballing brains of their partnership. Not unlike our present managerial team, Holt has the footballing knowledge/experience, Martindale does the training and behind the scenes stuff, organizing things off field.
