RIP Pele

Pele has died. His pass for the beautiful 4th Brazil goal in the 1970 World Cup Final was exquisite.

He was the player of his generation, IMO he was surpassed on an individual basis by both Maradona and Messi & possibly Cruyff but his ability was mesmerising.

3 World Cup winners medals,something the greats you mentioned didn't,with respect.Wel never know who was the greatest,but for me born the year he got his first medal,he always will be the greatest player I ever seen and grew up with.Only word to describe him Legend.And yes that goal from the Azteca Stadium in 1970 will be with me as long as I live.RIP Great One..

The thing is those three Brazil World Cup winning teams were great teams, he was the outstanding player in 1970 but although he shone in ‘58 he was just the apprentice to the other great players in the side, he didn’t do that well in ‘62 and was injured early in the year that shall never be named.

Maradona & Messi had to drag their teams to glory; Cruyff never did achieve international success and only played in one World Cup which his side should have won but failed at the final hurdle but his individual brilliance was clear.

It’s a debate that could go on forever but what is certain is that a legend has left us.
