League Cup Draw

Don't think it makes much difference which seeded team we get, they'll all be too good for us, Dumbarton is prob the weakest out of the 2nd seeded teams, esp with them not having a team signed yet . Not too fussed about the unseeded teams, as long as we don't get QP our bogey team from last season.

Hamilton, Dumbarton, Clyde and EK is probably our best chance of getting through. Not been to Clyde and EK so that would be preferable too.

This. Struggling to get excited about the draw itself, let alone the actual Cup games. Last season was a bit of a damp squib for us, seeing how the seasons went for the respective teams in our group it was disappointing to only come away with one win. No doubt about it though, the teams listed above represent our best chance of getting through - and that's what we should be aiming for, IMO.

Last season these BetFred cup games were more useful for getting us sharp for the start of the league than anything else. Our team is pretty much the same as last season with just a small addition of players to it so we should be a bit more competitive in the cup games.

Well we should beat Stranraer and Airdrie, so just need to get a result against St Mirren and get one of the best runner up places. Don't mind playing St Mirren, will be a good indicator for measuring how we'll fare against Championship teams.
Nothing to lose against Partick either, they'll be favourites so just get stuck in aboot them and see how well we do against them too.

I would expect 3rd but I want to know why we don't have a 4th tier team in our group, a few other groups have 2 & at least 1 group has a 4th tier & a 5th tier side.

The obvious answer is that the unseeded teams were a single pot of teams but it would surely not have been too difficult to split that pot by the tier each team was in? Or even by guided placement as in the World Cup when teams from the same federation as a team already in a group are then placed in the first available group with no team from that federation. The CL also does this with teams from the same country.

Probably because anything below halfway down the championship in Scotland is regarded by the SFA as of nuisance value only.

The regionalisation thing is a load of nonsense too, closest stadium to us is Tynecastle and Hearts are in a different region. Even wosre is Edin City are in a different region to Hearts and Hibs.

The group stages are tough and make it difficult to progress but I quite like them for being part of our pre season preperations before the league starts. It gives us a couple of tough competitive games just to get right up to speed. I'd like us to get 2nd place or even pull off a surprise result against Partick (you never know with it being so early they may not have their act together), but if not then i'm not too bothered, the league is where I really want us to do well and hopefully we get off to a flier again.

I'm hoping we get Partick & Stranraer at home, and Airdrie & St Mirren away, the latter 2 are great away venues for entertainment from their fans when they're losing. St Mirren in particular are a very angry bunch and I was near peeing myself laughing at them when we knocked them out the cup a couple of seasons back.

Was hoping for Partick and Stranraer at home/St Mirren and Airdrie away. Bit of a hike for a midweek Tues night game away to Stranraer but the rest of the draw is fine.

Will only be able to make it to the game against Airdrie, maybe. Might head along depending on the price and what the group looks like, part time supporter these days.

Reasonably pleased we've got the two toughest games first, especially home advantage for the game against Partick. Hopefully we're going into the final two (which we should win), with something to play for, putting the pressure on Partick and St Mirren.

So we did a lot better than everyone expected and won the group, last 16 draw is being done after the Dundee Derby.

A very winnable game I reckon.

A big game so Hippo will no doubt show up for it and score a goal against us. Hopefully though Gallagher and Halkett hussle him out the game so he throws a tantrum and kicks one of them in front of the ref. Red card, Livi fans get the chance to rip the piss out of him on his way down the tunnel.

Tues the 8th Aug is when we play Falkirk away 7.45 pm ko.

Lots of away game in Aug, Falkirk away in the Betfred cup, then Brechin away on Sat 12th in the league, then Morton away in the Irnbru cup on Tues 15th. And finish off with Morton away in the league on Sat 26th.

Yep it certainly is an extremly difficult draw for us.Falkirk,s exploits in the cups in recent years has been well documented and would suggest that they are going to be a tough nut to crack especially on their own patch.Having said that of course their not unbeatable but its going to take a huge effort from the Lions to progress in this tournament.Remember guys the league is our priority this season,anything else will be considerd as a bonus.

A home tie against any of the teams that get through tonight would do me, preferably Dundee/Utd, Aberdeen or Sevco. I think we could cause a wee upset against one of those teams playing at home. We're due a flipping home draw anyway.

Don't fancy our chances against Celtic or Hibs so hopefully we avoid those two, and we've already played Partick th, and played Motherwell in a friendly so not really wanting to play either of them again.

Ross County away would be a bummer!

Torn about the draw this evening. Either of the Dundee clubs offers the best chance of progression, but realistically, it'll be very tough against any of the sides left in the contest. Assuming all four "higher" ranked sides make it through tonight, my preference would be any one of Dundee, Ross or Partick at home. Hibs home or away or Rangers at home would be a shite draw. Celtic or Rangers away is obviously the money spinning ties here.

Not so sure; we narrowly lost against Motherwell when we had Maley in goal; gave Partick a real fright and Hamilton are no great shakes.

As Orco says though; Ross County would be a real pain
