Well it all hangs on us winning against the only team in the group with no points. Surely we can get a home win against a side that has lost to Accies, Cove & Brechin? I think they have scored in every game but conceded 10… surely we can get another big win?

    Nah, I must be dreaming.

Think even i would foregoe my misgivin apprehension for this one.The alternative just doesn't bare thinking about. We feched up top six last season, this would have the same connotations. Clyde are the proverbial whipping boys in this group and as such should provide a lucky opportunity for us to progress to the next round, albeit probably not as group winners.Any kind of win will surely secure our place as best runners up even if its a group we should have strolled through.Just get it done Livi with no fannying about.👊🦁🏆.

Would expect a cricket score for this game, it's all about that important first goal going in though, that breaks the ice and our players will start relaxing and scoring for fun.

Cove taking a point or two or three against Accies would be good and they go into the game knowing if they beat Accies they could win the group if we slip up again and would definitely finish second with a chance of qualifying.

Thought we were never going to score today then Bruce trundled one in before maintaining the penalty ineptitude. It really is farcical… credit to him for stepping up by but Stephen Kelly was still on the pitch so why was he not taking it?

So we give credit to Cove for doing us a favour and we win the group.

Clyde didn’t trouble us but we were once again far too slow in our build up. Too many sideways and backwards passes. Too many poor passes. Holt was never MotM. I’d have given it to Guthrie for putting a very good shift albeit that he still needs to show more goal threat. Nottingham seems to have a bit about him, apart from his first attempt at a cross he looked decent.

We also need to be starting with Brandon on the right.

We will need to be massively better against Aberdeen next week & I still foresee a long hard season in front of us. Hopefully St Johnstone maintain their poor form when the league starts, then we’ll have a shout at staying up.

A good outcome but it wasn’t a great watch, we made very heavy weather of beating a team that had shipped 10 goals to the other sides in the group. The good outcome doesn’t come close to even papering over the cracks.

Take it as it is, we won the game, won the group, and are in the next round. A few teams struggled, and the likes of |St Johnstone and Utd failed. We'd have been a best 2nd placed team on 10 pts anyway, Cove drawing with Accies was an added bonus.

Aye Guthrie did a decent job as target man, winning all the headers and good hold up play, could come good for us yet playing him in that role. Think it was Ayo with some cracking through balls too, putting it on a tee for Bruce running onto it, but he took too long and got caught with the defender.

Brandon and Nottingham could be a good partnership on the right, the big man looked pretty good when he came on. Really need to stop putting Montano on the right, he's far better on his natural side, and Brandon always looks good when he comes on, so why are we not playing him from the start.

Looking forward to the Aberdeen game so we can assess where we are properly though.

Agree totally on Brandon; neither Penrice nor Montano are as effective on the right.

Yes we take the outcome over the performance but we are going to have to perform better in the league. And don’t read too much into the defensive record from pre season and League Cup games, we haven’t played anyone of any real attacking quality yet.

Such a frustrating game to watch yesterday. Thought their goalkeeper did well to keep us at bay including the pen save.Agree about the big fella Nottingham, looked decent when he came on albeit for a short period. As has been said the objective has been achieved in getting to the next round thankfully. However we're really going to have to up our game for an undoubted tough period ahead.

At this point everyone is going to have to up their game, look at results around the teams in the top flight, St Johnstone out the cup, Dundee are needing a win by a couple of goals to scrape through on GD as a best 2nd placed team, St Mirren lost a cup game and top their group with 9pts , Ross County also on 10 pts same as us and topping their group, same with Killie, Motherwell drew a game same as us, but won their pen shoot out. Not one Prem team won all their games, in fact only team to do so was Airdrie, a newly promoted Championship team.

Then there's Hibs being beaten by a European minnow.

Sevco don't look any great shakes yet either, don't know about Aberdeen but i don't think they've played a competitive game yet, so at least we've had these cup games to get ourselves prepared for the league kicking off against them. I don't think any team is firing on all cylinders yet though. we're certainly not the worst looking team going by results so far.

I think what's making us nervous of the season ahead, is the way we finished last season, until the league starts and we play a fellow Premiership team, and gauge how we played against them, that uneasy feeling isn't going to go away. Squad wise we lost Devlin and Fitzwater, but have brought in M Devlin, an experienced CB, due to injuries finds himself at Livi, but if he stays fit will be an upgrade on Fitz, and new signing Nottingham looks promising. We haven't lost Bruce or Nouble yet, so we're not really any worse off, and with the defensive signings we're prob better off at the back.

Only problem area we have is at RB/RWB, Brandon looks like he is decent, but Martindale isn't starting him, and is playing LB's/LWB's over on the right wing, which isn't ideal.

We did play Sevco and Carlisle in pre season games, and only conceded 1 goal, QP are shite in defence but pose a decent goal threat, and we kept a clean sheet, all in all the 3 at the back has done well. But yeah, until we play a Premiership team in earnest we wont really know. Can't be worse than it was in the run in to last season though, shipping 16 goals in our last 9 games, 14 of them in 6 away games.

My main concern is scoring goals, apart from the Cove game we haven't exactly set the heather on fire, Brechin was a bit better looking because Montano scored late on to make it 3, but we struggled a bit in that game too, till we got the 2nd goal. Really counting on our defence to have improved so we don't have to score 2 and 3 goals to get something.
