He actually said it was the build of games, the astro turf didn’t help but it could have happened on grass, you just don’t know. So IMO he didn’t back McLeish at all.
BBC also decided to ignore what he actually said and went with "Tierney says playing too many games, the last on Livingston's Astroturf pitch, was the cause of his withdrawal."
Implying the astroturf knackered him.
