    Pre-Season Friendlies - Page 2 Empty Stenhousemuir

Post by Durnford Thu Jul 02, 2015 9:33 am

    So is anyone going?

Probably be a good chance for a number of new faces to get a run out and a few fringe to perhapos reserve a place in the squad against Real Sociedad?

Even given the fluid nature of friendlies I'm expecting an impressive performance from the front line; for the midfield and defence it will be the first competitive game that many of them have played together so would expect a few slip-ups and misunderstandings.

As such I'm going to predict a healthy 5-2 to us; 2-1 at half time; not that the score really matters other than to build confidence.

Strangely it seems to be a 1:30 kick off; light rain forecast.

Wouldn't it be great if both teams played in their away colours?

Livi 3 nil up at HT.

Buchanan and Mullen scoring 1 each and A Trialist the other. Hope the trialst is a midfielder or defender, don't think we need another striker.

Anyone at the game give us the team line up afterwards if you could, nothing on twitter other than goals and who scored them.

Buchanan, Mullen and White are gonna rip the Championship to feck with goals this season. Hopefully Sheering will get in on the act too.

Apparently the line ups are as follows:

1st half team: DJ, Millen, Cole, Trialist, Longridge, Hippo, Trialist, Trialist, Gibbons, Buchanan, Sheerin

2nd half team: Trialist, Cole, Sives, Gordon, Knox, Trialist, Currie, Pittman, Glen, White, Mullen

Certainly interesting to say basically a full team subbed. Apparently the goal in the first half was score by Millen not Mullen..

    Cheers Sunderland.

Yeah seen that a lot with teams playing against us swapping the whole team at HT. Burchill is obv wanting to see as many play as possible to assess them. We'll have a more settled side once we get nearer to the season kicking off and him having worked out our strongest starting 11.

Looks like we've a trialist CB and 2 or 3 midfielders (depending if the trialist in the 2nd half isn't one from the 1st half).

Laughing Well spotted, great slogan for a T shirt for this season Lexi. Maybe better wait a bit till they score some goals before suggesting it though. Laughing

No goals 2nd half 3-0 FT.

Decent start to pre season, looking forward to next weeks home game against Dunfermline till I get my first look at the team. Mon the Amber Machine.

Could be a potential money maker similar to the Feed the Hippo t-shirts last season...

Comfortable win for the #AM in the end. Passing was pretty slick and majority of players were fairly impressive although we made it hard for ourselves at the start but that's probably down to the players playing their first proper game together as a team.

From those that we have signed, Buchanan, Gibbons, Longridge and Millen were the most impressive. Sheerin still looks like he's got a bit of holiday weight in him and wasn't that good but I don't want to get too judgmental after one game. I think we had 5 trialists but I would only take one of them right now and he was the one who scored the opening goal. The others weren't giving me the most confidence even for a friendly.

First half team played much better, though Pittman was excellent second half. Millen was superb, great delivery which we've been missing for the last few years, could of good trialists as well (centre back + right mid) plus Buchanan looking good up front.

    Certainly a good start...

Great start for Millen, so much for him being shite. Laughing

Also Pittman getting good reviews, reckon he'll be contender for PoTY.

Forgot about the trialist at CB, I would take him too. Seemed very comfortable alongside Cole.

Heard Millen takes a good free kick too, something else we rarely score from, though Hippo's against Sevco was pretty good.

I actually wasn't that impressed with the central defender trialist in the first half; was okay and pretty tall but kelp leaving plenty of gaps - difficult to really judge someone on 45 minutes when he could be in a team of strangers. He and Longridge didn't seem to really gel.

The trialist with 22 on his shorts, who scored the goal (and caused a comedy gold moment with stadium announcer), was again okay. wasn't sure either about the number 17 (I think) although he seemed more settled when he can on again for Cole in the second half.

Thought Millen played well and, despite Pars fans comments on P&B, seemed absolutely no stranger to attacking down the right wing.

Gordon looked a very good acquisition, strong and powerful in the centre of the defence. Wasn't too sure about his speed in getting back but will wait to see him against more quality opposition.

The trialist goalkeeper looked in total control for the whole second half; one good reflex save and lots of organisation.

Thought Currie looked okay but was really pleasantly surprised at how well Knox fitted in with Pittman and Mullen; time and again they ripped the Stenny left defence a new one.

Agree with others who said Sheerin still looked over-weight; some nice moves but not hugely impressive.

Gibbon despite not being particularly large seemed perfectly happy to get in there and mix it. Once he settles I think he'll be a good replacement for Kyle Jacobs.

Buchanan was clearly the class act

Glen was amazingly inconsistent; some times pretty good and other blasting the ball into the stands etc.

I liked the look of the number 14 trialist - the central defender.
Of the new guys Buchanan and Gordon will be good additions.
The goalie in the second half didn't have an awful lot to do. One worrying thing was that he twice palmed out balls rather than catch them. Maybe it was the best thing to do in the circumstances but I wouldn't like to see too much of that since there is always the likelihood of a follow up from a lurking striker.
I am hoping Pitman takes over the Keaghan role. He is tenacious and works hard.
Gary Glen needs to be more consistent as you say Durnford. I always feel he has more there than he gives and sometimes looks a bit lazy.
Dunfermline will likely give us a harder game. I hear it is being played at Broxburn though.

Are they saving the pitch for Sociedad? Would be better to dig it up a bit to make it harder for them to pass the ball. Very Happy

Going by the photos, Sheerin needs to drop at least a stone if he wants to be anywhere near that starting line-up.

All sounds very positive otherwise, I imagine that we might see another signing before the Dunfermline game.

Looked a bit concerning in the early minutes of the highlights but 3 well taken goals. The lad on the first did well to catch the ball after a heavy touch & even better to turn it in from the angle he was at. Classy finish from Buchanan & a very decent strike from Millen.

The CB did well to get a foot in and stop them shooting when we were cut open in the first few minutes.
Yeah the trialist that scored did really well to put it in from that angle, nice through ball by Buchanan too, Stenny were cut wide open and could only stick up their hands in hope for offside.

Good goal by Buchanan, noticed he was right in there for Millen's goal to pounce if the keeper had saved it, good predatory instincts.

The highlights make it look like it was all Stenny at the start. In truth it was anything but; lots of toing and froing whilst the players settled down but very little real pressure. Understandably the Stenny highlights have wanted to show their action in a positive light but, other than what was shown; they did very little else.
