Re: Should McGlynn Go?
It's not as cut and dried as "should he go". I'm no fan of his tactics that's for sure, and I'm mindful that we've played much better stuff in recent years - but those days are gone. Harking back to previous managers/players is totally pointless at times like this.
One things far sure, we can't afford to sack him. Another thing is, was it not Rankine who said McGlynn had a job for life at the club?
As bad as things may be, and bad they are - McGlynn is going nowhere.

Re: Should McGlynn Go?
I doubt there is such a thing nowadays as a job for life, not just in football either. Football is a results business, the minute you are on a downward spiral the boards start to panic, or fans put pressure on them to punt the manager. If we stayed bottom for a few weeks and a gap opened I could see McGlynn being punted.
Lexi made a good point in another thread about McGlynn, he's played decent looking football last season when we had better players, his budget has been cut yet again and we've lost 2 very influential players from defence this season, that must have a major effect on our play. Even with Gallagher in the team we were playing better stuff this season, we had a + GD, since he's been out our GD has gone into - and we've conceded 16 goals, 11 in the league.
Hopefully our bad spell has gone and after the QoS game we're playing teams in the bottom 5, those will be where we'll see which way our season is going, we'll either pick up points and move up the table a bit or head back down and be in real trouble.
Basically with our budget we're stuck with what we've got squad wise and whover is managing us would have a job on their hands. We're never going to get the kind of football played like we did a couple of seasons ago when we had Scougall, Sparky, Beanie, Andreu, Bobby Barr etc etc, those quality players have left and been replaced with ones just not as good.

Re: Should McGlynn Go?
Aye; the cloth cutting continues & will go on for the foreseeable while we struggle along on a small support & with gates against Hearts, Rangers & especially Hibs being announced at lower than anticipated levels (albeit that they looked bigger than the quoted figures) we are probably not reaping the cash bonanza that was anticipated pre season.
We are slowly finding our level & it is probably bottom half of the 2nd tier at best...yo-yo-ing between 2nd & 3rd tiers as the norm & going bust at worst.
We need to ensure we remain in the division this season to benefit next season from which ever of the "big 3" fail to get promotion.

Hopefully 2 of the 3 will stay down and we'll still be here, and in this div, to reap the benefits. Would be faf if Hearts were the only ones to go up and we gub sevco in the cup final to top it off.

Not yet but losing faith.
McGlynn I think is on a rolling yearly contract which was similar to what Bollan had. Think we could get rid at the end of the season, if we wanted.

Ooft, 1 win in our last 9 games and that was from a penalty shoot out, that's pretty bad.
Desperately need a win against Alloa or McGlynn's coat will surely be on a shoogly peg.

We've only won in 90 minutes 3 times this season.
I expect this thread to get really busy in about 3 weeks when we've picked up something like 5 points from the 3 part timers.

5 points would be a decent amount, the way things are going we'll get 2 draws and a defeat.
Really need a win against Alloa and Cowden or we're firmly down in the relegation scrap.

I don't want him to go, but it seems there's no other option. He has no plan b, it looks as if he has lost the dressing room

When you see lack of team spirit (bust up like yesterday), no motivation to help one and other etc, that's when you know he has lost the dressing room. You should pay more attention to what is going on with the players and their reactions

Re: Should McGlynn Go?
what I saw was our keeper make another horrible mistake and Talbot having a word when DJ lifted his hands in a wee pushing incident. DJ should be dropped end of story mate. Also what I saw before was the horrible set up of a wall by the keeper that led to the first goal. What I also saw In the first 20 mins was a Livi team that was playing with passion and poise to score one of our best team goals of the season watch it back if you don't believe me. At that time it didn't look as if the manager had lost the dressing room. What I then saw was a team who was scunnered at their keeper for losing three avoidable goals. Time for young Grant to be a chance between the sticks . I want to see my team winning and to win we need to stop losing crazy goals.Achilles wrote:When you see lack of team spirit (bust up like yesterday), no motivation to help one and other etc, that's when you know he has lost the dressing room. Re: Should McGlynn Go?
We need to start defending properly; from the front; closing teams down & stopping them play.
We might all like the silky football but right now they need to fight & battle; we need the "blood & snotters" type of performance Pearse Flynn was demanding years ago & got for a few games. We need solidity & we need to try & win ugly because we certainly ain't winning trying to play football or resorting to hoofball

we need to change our keeper ...that would be a good start on the way to not losing games.Bertie Bassett wrote:We need to start defending properly; from the front; closing teams down & stopping them play.

Is the other keeper any good? I've not got a clue who Grant is or if he's better than DJ.

All I know is , he played vs Dalkeith for us in a friendly , that was our youth team though.
And he was on loan berwick, and played in their 3-2 win over us...

Re: Should McGlynn Go?
According to his wiki page he has come through the ranks at Hibs. So. After the clangers that DJ has made if the lad can't get his chance now how ill we ever know if he is good enough . Seriously we can't keep giving cheap goals away. On Saturday DJ should have saved all three. McGlynn needs to get it sorted or he could be out of a job and our season could be well and truly over. I know DJ is held in affection by lots in the support but surely we need to do something radical to stop the rot. If the young guy Grant can't get a game now then he never will.Liviforever wrote:Is the other keeper any good? I've not got a clue who Grant is or if he's better than DJ.

Re: Should McGlynn Go?
What I saw was Weatherston take an excellent free kick. I then saw Weatherston again hit a close range shot which DJ had to react to quickly and unfortunately palm into the side net. It happens. The fact remains that our defender allowed thast shot to happen. A goalie and a defender error. The third goal he might have saved on another day but the defenders left him completely exposed. Talk of dropping him is ridiculous. Goalkeepers make mistakes yes, but they also make saves that keep us in games as DJ has done consistently since he came in. Dropping him for an unknown quantity would solve nothing.

you are in cloud cuckcoo land if you think the second goal was acceptable mistake. Also He didn't set his wall up correctly and he should have saved the first. He should be dropped. If I was the manager he would be. Cost us the game mate no doubt about it.orco wrote:What I saw was Weatherston take an excellent free kick. Agree 100%. He saved us a point against Falkirk and others; and got us through to one cup final. Put a proper defence in front of him and he's a very good keeper - Grant on the other hand is an unknown quantity but doesn't come with the best of stats.
I suppose its a fact of life that goalkeepers will get blamed whereas a completely toothless strikeforce will blame the service or the tactics or whatever for the fact that they seem totally unable to score in a Sao Paulo brothel.

However the wall had been set up would have made no difference; it was an excellent shot and travelled like a bullet.
As for the second goal why was he put into that position in the first place; the lead up to that goal was a catelogue of errors and missed passes. We could take it to extremes and say theior keeper should have saved both of our goals - but he didn't.
Also, and off the point, I wouldn't be calling Orco "mate" if I were you - she certainly won't appreciate it.

Re: Should McGlynn Go?
Talbot should be dropped long before Jamieson is. It's bad enough he acts like a mindless thug towards opposition players and risks getting sent off, but now he's doing it to his own team? There was no need for his reaction, DJ might have made a mistake but that's no reason to go up and push him while he's on the ground. As one of our experienced players he should be setting an example to the younger players; not pushing them about.
Whether it's the manager or the players, something needs to change. I'm not sure about Grant, he doesn't have the best looking stats as has been said. DJ isn't a bad keeper, he's made a few mistakes yes, but he's won us points all the same with some of his saves.

Re: Should McGlynn Go?
The free kick was from miles away and should never have been in from there, wasn't in the top corner anyway which is the only place I'd have said was acceptable to score from over 30 odd yards from a free kick. 2nd was a total comic cut goal. 3rd he got near to but again imo should've been saved, wasn't anywhere near gimme's that DJ has saved in games when I expected the other team to score, that was one I expected him to save. Add all 3 and it was a total mare for him.
He saved us in the Falkirk game no argument there but the game before that he cost us 3 points, or at least 1. His blunder there gave Hibs (in fact twice against Hibs now) the confidence to kck on and beat us easily, up till then it was pretty even and they didn't look like scoring.
Keepers get plaudits for making good saves, DJ has had plenty, but that's their jobs, you can blame the defence but the keeper is also there when the defence doesn't stop everything, bit much to think he should pick up his wages for doing nothing all game and not have a save to make.
