Livi v Morton (Tues 7.45 ko) Empty Livi v Morton (Tues 7.45 ko)

Post by Liviforever Sun Feb 28, 2016 5:17 pm

Morton have comfortably beaten us in every game this season, even the 1-0 game their defence dealt with us all day long trying to play through the centre, and they have quick players to lump balls up the wings to which gives them an out ball. Could this be the game we finally use our wings and beat them at their own game, I hope so. I expected us to do that against Raith though and we didn't so i'm a bit wary of getting carried away with how we played against Alloa.

Kakay has to start in midfield again, and Longridge at LB, in midfield he pushes up the wing and we really need to do that against Morton to get in behind their solid defence. Telfer looks a handful so quite excited about seeing him playing in the rest of our games, shame for Pittman but we need to be putting out our strongest team and Telfer is a cracking player.

Could do with Mullen having a pop from distance now and again too, we know he's got that kind of goal in him so would like to see him having a dig.

I'll go for another optimistic prediction, expecting this to be a tight game but think we can win it, 2-1 Livi, fg 35 mins.

Would I be right in thinking that Morton is the only team we haven't taken points off this season?

Surely he has to name the same starting XI??

I know I've been down on Mullen since his return but it sounds like he was doing well yesterday and okay it's only Alloa but you still have to do it.

But allowing my usual negativity to raise its ugly head... Morton have our number this season so back to earth with a bump... We scored 3 yesterday so we'll draw a blank on Tuesday

You'd think so, he has been changing 3 players every game but we actually won this one so you'd think he'll stick with those 11 players.

Checked the starting eleven after we beat St Mirren 4-1 and see White, Mullen and Longridge was dropped, for Hippo, Sheerin and Gibbons coming in. McCallum left so DJ came back in but that change couldn't be helped. Worrying that Hopkin keeps making 3 changes every game though as it doesn't help get consistency.

I agree; & I don't buy into the squad rotation concept; play your best XI & make subs if/when necessary; change the starting line up IF there is an injury, suspension or consistently poor form.

Am I right in saying we haven't beat Morton at home since 2008?

Small crowd under 800; 'home games only' fans will be raging; and we'll bottle it through a pathethic defensive error and Mullen having a horrendous game: 2-0 Morton and three points for Alloa against Dumbarton. FG 51 mins.

Morton seem to have us sussed, so it'll be interesting to see how Hopkin lines the team up to counter that. Should go with the same XI again, barring any injuries, it's our strongest IMO and as I said on the Alloa thread Mullen and White as a pairing gets results, somehow. That said, I would take a point from this given our general inability this season to get the better of them, even when we've had the bulk of the play.

1-1, FG 53 mins, with a bonus prediction of a crowd of 762.

As has been said many times before,we seem to be our own worst enemies any time after we get a decent result.Personaly il reserve my judgement as to how i think this game will go until i see what team Hopkin puts out.Its a big ask against a Morton team whove probably exceeded their own expectations for this season so far.Suffice to say we,re at home and well overdue them one.So over to you Livi, you couldnt do it again could you????.

Telfer is def the playmaker up front, need to get the ball to him so he can make things happen with balls into the box. Even in the 2nd half against Alloa he played in Buchanan and Kakay for shots on goal and could/should have had another 2 assists to his credit.

Prob the strongest looking attack we've had all season with Kakay and Telfer in midfield. Just hope Hopkin plays them in the same positions again and we go for it against Morton.

Hopefully Hoppy doesn't fuck about with the team and plays the same we did against Alloa. Can see us getting a point or 3 if we play as well as we can with Morton collapsing a bit recently (when you don't include thumping Hibs).

Good point gained, fair enough result with McCallum pulling off an excellent save which stopped it going just inside his post and White missing an absolute sitter from Mullen putting it on a plate for him.

Telfer was excellent again, puts in great balls across the 6 yard box, just need someone to get on the end of them.

Looking on the positives, we've gone 2 games unbeaten and if we keep playing like this we'll pick up points. Could do with having shots at goal, and getting them on target, but Telfer certainly gives us good balls into the box and I think he'll supply us with enough chances to start scoring goals.

Morton collapsing a bit? They were closing in on Raith in 4th place!

Anyway.... Poor game, two poor sides, we should have scored when Mullen played in White, woeful miss by the big man. Telfer began to look threatening when he moved up front but until then did nothing of note. Mullen got his customary injury and then looked disinterested, did well to play in White for the wasted chance tho. White was last season's White, only header he did anything decent with was a wee pass only for Mullen to turn directly into a defender. Stanton was anonymous. Fozzy was quiet. Kakay put in a shift but had a tendency to be drawn out of position, Cole needs to focus and stop thinking he's better than he is. Gordon has played worse but also played better. Longridge did pretty well but wasn't much of factor going forward, Halkett was my MotM closely followed by McCallum.
Subs... I thought Mullin was supposed to be quick? Did ok tho, ditto Pittman but Buchanan had no impact.

Morton were very poor at the start of the second half but instead of getting at them we stood off and let them waste the ball, then give them it back and watch them waste it again. Dangerous practice as it eventually led to them getting chances.

Ref and his flag bearers were poor.

    Result was about right.

Bertie pretty much summed it up. Lets take into account Morton have taken four points away to Rangers and Hibs and are looking to finish in the play-offs. Their front line were physical and had us done for pace but Cole and Gordon were getting away with some silly fouls as were their defence who are very poor when any pressure is put on them. I'd have put Sheerin on to give another option but it's clear that Hopkin doesn't rate him and he was also playing for the draw.

Grand scheme of things, if we get a win against Dumbarton, seven points from three games is a good return and I'm sure most here would've took that too. We have to win though, can't afford anything less otherwise it's Albion away come May.

Couldn't believe people booing at the end of the game as it was a very good point to collect.
We have only lost one of our last four league games and if we take a point at least on Saturday will be our best run in the league this season.
Points are what is important not the performance.

Big Jordan missed a sitter and should have scored absolutely no doubt about it,but for some section of our support to actually cheer when he was being subbed is disgraceful, even the manager turned to the stand and just looked in disbelief.
Another shameful incident By Livi supporters in recent weeks.
So I'm with Lf not the best performance but it was a clean sheet against a team who are 11 points in front of us, added to the fact we beat Alloa and have a decent chance of beating Dumbarton.
Also Hoppy played the same team two games running.
Onwards and upwards but some of our support need to have a long had look at themselves because they are acting like old firm fans at the moment.

On the whole I thought it was an improvement results wise, as well as actually getting in behind their defence to cause them problems.

We've played better against Morton and lost 1-0 because we couldn't get through their defence, i'd rather get a point and cause them problems than pass it around then huff and puff in the final third all game and lose.

Only thing i'd say was maybe Sheerin should've been given a try instead of Buchanan.

In principle I agree, the result is better & more important than the performance. But that doesn't mean I can't critique the performance.

Didn't hear any booing at all last night. Not saying you're hearing things Smithy but it may have been only up your end (ooo-er missus)

For what its its worth at least we never lost the gameThink Dumbarton were the only winners last night.Freezing your arse off on a cold midweek and having to sit through a game which apart from the odd shot here and there from both teams certainly did nothing to warm the spirits of the faithfull who bothered to turn up.Thought Telfer was the standout for us last night, such a pity we couldnt have had someone of his quality at the start of the season. Its still glareingly obvious where our main problems lie ie up front though i found it emmbaresing that some fans have reverted to booing our own players especially at this stage of the season when they need our support and not ridicule.Sincerely hope big White shows us a semblance of the form we know he has in his locker, just wish it would happen soon.Massive game coming up ,would love the Lions to deliver. It would certainly make the run in very interesting indeed.Once again over to you Livi!!!.

Yeah didn't hear booing either, old fella that sits along from us wasn't happy at us clapping White off but it was funny winding him up anyway. Laughing

Players put in a shift as Morton are pretty quick on the break and kept us on our toes, they at least deserved a clap for getting a point and the effort they put in. Was just one of those games where the teams cancelled one another out and not much happened in the way of shots on target.

Still 4 points from two games is fine, really hope we can win against Dumbarton though and i'd take a point against St Mirren, though 3 would be even better. If we can get a run going where we don't lose any games it'll gradually get us up to 8th.

The Raith game was more disappointing because we let ourselves down there, gifting them a goal when we didn't look like losing and should've got at least a point there. Dumbarton defeat was just our bloody lucky, again a draw would've been about right with the weather conditions making it impossible to play properly. But if we look from the Alloa game onwards we could go on a run like last season and clock up the points.

No danger that the supporters who sarcastically cheered White off would've been the 'home game only' fans. One of the lowest things to do when following a team.
