Gutted by that today.Once again the carrot is dangled in front of us and we cant grab it.I reckon its only Dumbartons to throw away because i cant see us winning another game between now and the playoffs.Hopkin unfortunatly is set in his ways and none of us are going to change it im afraid. The whole Cole and Knox fiasco is getting beyond a joke now and personally il be glad to see the back of both of them, alas i think Hopkin has other ideas. As ive said the playoffs beckon and this lot better get their preverbial fingers out their arses. This aint gonna be a stroll in the park contrary to popular belief. So dissapointing that its come to this, but weve only ourselves to blame.

I am preparing myself now for the play offs. Winning them is now our last chance saloon.

I'm sure we can win the playoffs but surely need to play to our strengths

However Hopkin needs to get the finger out and his head in gear and play to win not try to avoid defeat cos that ain't working.

So if he continues with this 451 pish he isn't the man to take the team forward.

Hope that gets me a nice wee badge from yourself Bertie

You were correct and I was wrong

    lol!

Kudos Smithy, badge is "in the post".... All I am really getting at is that you can't base it on stats alone. As an example, Chelsea have had the longest unbeaten run of any side in the EPL this season - it was ended yesterday at Swansea - and they are currently 10th.

We must have the stat for being 'unlucky' this season, whether it's dodgy decisions by officials doing us in, the opposition getting a worldy goal against us, or just plain ballsing it up with a keystone cops moment in defence to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. But I guess that's why we're where we are, teams in our position get those things happening to them, if we were better we'd be the ones getting those things going for us.

Only way out of it is changing the things that keep putting us in this position but Hopkin aint even trying. Like Smithy says, about time we went with two up front instead of this White in midfield set up, scoring one goal isn't getting the job done, we need to score 2 or 3 to bury teams and take the fight out of them.

You forgot to mention the wind assisted Dumbarton goal from a corner Liviforever. Rolling Eyes
Without that freaky goal we'd be on 29 points and Dumbarton on 28.
Then there was the sending off of that (now) Falkirk player for sheer stupidity that changed the first game at Dumbarton.

We're a frustrating to watch, inconsistent team that deserves to be in the bottom half of the table but it just shows how a wee fluke here and there can make the difference between survival or play offs in this league. Embarassed

No way on Earth I'd trust David Hopkin to get us play to our strengths. He's been in charge, what, 4 months? Barring the humping of St Mirren at the start of his reign and a competent display away to Alloa where we put them away fairly easily, can anyone honestly say that we've actually looked anywhere near impressive? Falkirk away I would maybe grant as an exception but that performance only serves to compound the point at hand.

You make your own luck in my mind. Quite simply we haven't been good enough, and the line that things "even themselves" out over the season doesn't really wash with me. Our manager and coaching staff in general are incompetent and unsuitable for this level. We can be set up to nullify teams and get results on occasion when the pressure isn't on (Falkirk away), but we can't see out most games due to crap team selection and horrendous tactical calls (Hibs away). Then, when the emphasis is on us to dictate play and attack, we're mediocre at best and flop (5 games against Morton this season).

FWIW, Dumbarton tried exactly the same shot from a corner during the first meeting between the sides at home. I wouldn't call it a fluke, it's something they clearly worked on and it paid off for them. That's why they'll finish 8th, and we'll finish 9th, because only one of the sides is professional.

But I agree with you orco, we're an inconsistent team who are frustrating to watch. With competent coaching and a professional setup in place, I'd be very confident that we'd be better than 9th given the squad we have.
