Livi v Stenny Empty Livi v Stenny

Post by Liviforever Mon Aug 15, 2016 10:34 pm

This might be a bit harder for us to score than our first 2 league games because Stenny will have seen our results and come with a game plan to frustrate us and  sit in. I think we've the players to break teams down that play like that though and if Cadden and Mullin both play we'd get balls in from the bye line which is hard to defend against.

Hopkin's team selection is a bit unpredictable when you get to our attacking players, prob be; Kelly-  Halkett, Lithgow, Crighton, Longridge- Miller, Byrne- Mullin, Pittman-  Buchanan, Mullen.

We could prob go with Halkett, Crighton, Lithgow as a back 3 and allow Longridge to go further up the wing, or take Longridge off for Cadden and Mullin both on as wingers if Stenny are going to sit in, which would give us more of an attacking threat from both wings to get in behind them.

We'll see how we cope with a team sitting in and if we can still score goals. Livi 3-0, fg 25 mins.

Yeah, they will park the proverbial bus & try to hit us on the break; is Colin McMenamin still their manager? If so he'll take great delight in sticking it to us. If we can get an early goal again it will draw them out a bit & maybe allow us to rattle in a few.

I'm going for a frustrating 90 mins but Livi's confidence to be enough for a 2-0 win FG 17 mins

Hopefully we go 3 goals ahead by the 2nd half and Hopkin brings on Lewis Allan for us to see what he can do.

Hopefully a straightforward win for us here. Hopefully we'll see Cadden have a good game and get some good form behind him in the run-up to the Alloa game.

Stenny work mate reckons we should stroll this game.Im not so sure.If we score early then he may be right but its Livi we,re talking about here albeit weve had a very welcome start to the season and are surely brimming with confidence.Any kind of win will do for me and i suspect many others will feel the same way.Hopefully 9 points on the board come 4 45 and a wee slip up from the Wasps would do nicely.Cmon Livi Do It.!!!

Professional performance from the team against a poor side. As long as we've got this professionalism then we'll get out of this league with minimum trouble.

I seriously underestimated how easy this game would be, expected Stenny to sit in and frustrate us but they didn't, and we were up 1-0 after 4 minutes. Could easily have finished 7 or 8 nil, bit disappointed giving away a penalty in the last minute too, but we've got another 3 points and back on top with GD so who can complain!

Mullen and Pittman have been stand outs, Danny is at last living up to his earlier promise of a talented player, keeps on like this and he'll be the top scorer in the league. Fantastic deliveries for our goals too, and great to see we're anticipating these kind of balls and getting ourselves in to getting on the end of them.

Just hope folk start taking notice of our results and come down to see the excellent football we're playing, the players can't do much more to attract fans, 13 Livi goals scored in 3 games, mon to feck West Lothian, get your arses down to the games.

Agree with most if not all of that LF. I also thought Byrne, Miller and Longridge had very good games today with Byrne possibly MotM. Watt again looked lively when he came on. Orr showed more this time than he did when I last saw him but I'm not convinced by him yet; Allan should have tried to get his head on a cross but didn't, also needs to show more.

Hard to grumble with the start we have made in the league, long may this style and form continue. Well done to Hoppy, he's winning me over with every game at the moment.

We looked too good for a poor Stenhousemuir team. I am beginning to wonder if the outcome last year might have been different if we had had this group of players.
The pleasing thing for me is that when we sub a player the team doesn't look weakened and on occasion looks stronger.
When was the last time we won three games in a row. I can't remember. Long may it continue! Laughing

That was the worst team I can remember us playing in along time. Dont remeber a game where I have felt a team couldn't come back into it since we were in Div 2 the last time.

We still managed to give a pen away however, and the keeper still looks brutal from a kick out. These are minor points in the grand scheme of things. Would love to see Gallacher come back in to this team with Crighton as they would walk it.

Lastly a word on Pittman; unbelievable, watching him over the past 3 seasons i find it hard to believe this boy came from the juniors, should be playing top end championship.

I'm sure that when the possibility was mentioned last season, it transpired we hadn't won 3 games in a row since our last season in the third tier.

I said before the season started that he needed to live up to his early promise, he is doing that so far, long may it continue. Dropping to this division just might be enough to boost confidence enough to make these guys a real 2nd tier level side and then who knows what can happen.

He's now making instinctive runs into the 6 yard box anticipating a cross, something he really wasn't doing enough of before, mostly his goals came from shots outside the box which were cracking goals but it's good to see him also scoring goals like this.
We've got the players that will put balls across the 6 yard line so he can be confident of anticipating them.

Btw that was some ball in from Crighton assisting one of Mullen's goals. Superb turn and shot for Pittman's goal too, you could see the opening and I was shouting shoot as he turned and fired it in, belting goal. Think it was Miller that had an opening in the 2nd half and everyone around me was shouting for him to have a dig but he passed it up and then played it back for someone else to have a shot, he was in a far better position but mustn't be confident of shooting.

Great start to the season but dreading when we have to play Alloa. Hope we respond well to a proper test. Also hope our defence get rid of the several 'heads gone' moments they had yesterday - both defenders leave the ball for the other to go for and we get disposessed. I counted 3 of those types of instances yesterday. What Lithgow was thinking in the build up to the penalty, I'll never know. But, onwards and upwards!

Can't wait for the Alloa game, been bursting to play them since the Stranraer game. They got lucky against East Fife but we're still scoring for fun, really looking forward to cuffing them.

As has already been said a comfortable win for the Lions yesterday played in attrocios conditions.Thought Pitts had an absolute blinder of a game and wee Danny ran his socks off again for us.As ive said before we cant allow ourselves to get complacent as we wont be facing teams as poor as that Stenny team every week, but nevertheless you can only play against the team thats put in front of you.Having said that we are top of the league on our efforts and deserve the plaudits that will undoutably come our way.Expect a few bumps along the way but this team seem to have gelled together in a very pleasing manner and i for one hope they can keep it going for as long as they can.Well done Hoppy and the whole team and would reitteraete that it would be great to get more bums on seats as this team deserves more backing than it is currently getting.!!!

The generational gap of 2 and a half years is probably just a touch too little.

I've really rated him since the 14/15 season, particularly in the run in where he was a 20 year old looking like an experienced campaigner leading the line on his own. As orco says, he leaps very, very well (a la Snodgrass in his final season with us) and can bang them in from long distance. I think with his size he will naturally get knocked off the ball by bigger players so going down easily and winning free-kicks, I have no problem with. Plus it grates on opposition fans which I love.

The only plaudits our players are getting just now are from us Livi fans, everyone else is salivating over Alloa because of their cup run and being undefeated in 8 games.
I think the Bet Fred cup games helped in our preparation to the league as we played all but one cup and pre season friendly against higher league opposition. The league is the most important thing for us this season though, we're making a loss this season with the huge drop in income from the Championship, and we really need to get promotion back to it.
We've been ahead of Alloa twice but they're still everyone's favourites for winning the league, does burn a bit but maybe it's doing us a favour because it can only spur our players on seeing them being ignored after winning 3 out of 3 games and scoring 13 goals in the process.

I think you must ignore my posts scratch I've been saying this for ages, even to the extent that I have said he was better in the air than Jordan White since the latter' first season with us.
