Livi have been pretty decent in pricing our games, Alloa and Airdrie were higher than us last season and Dumbarton charge more than us this season, I know this is a couple of quid higher than it should be but a bit of an over reaction by Livi fans to it.

I disagree that we are overreacting; £20 is too much for ANY Scottish domestic football match outwith the top tier and arguably including that division. You could feed a family of four for less.

Yes the club have been very decent regarding pricing, especially for cup ties against lower league status sides; but they have made an error of judgement here. Saying it isn't much of an increase for Livi fans is misleading... it isn't much of an increase for fans who PATG (it shouldn't be an increase at all) but for us ST holders it is a massive hike on our price per game.

The recent fans survey of Scottish Football showed that fans don't think those running the game know what they are doing & that they don't listen to fans. The response from the Ivory Towers was that they always take fans views seriously (while their actions suggest otherwise)... in other words "the fans can say what they like & we'll do what we like anyway" - and this pricing structure smacks exactly of that attitude; which TBF is the first time this regime has done this; which makes it all the more surprising & disappointing.

Have you read some of the things Livi fans have come out with, def is an overreaction. If this was £18 I think it would've been about right, but 2 pounds more and folk are having a fit. Livi should probably come out with a statement on FB or even the OS explaining what has happened, it looks like Glenafton didn't agree to the price we wanted so it has gone to what the home team charges for league games, so why not explain what happened, it would defuse some of the venting of spleens.

Say what the price was going to be and why it is now £20, our highest gate price and not £18 the lowest. Bit of PR wouldn't go amiss here.

Typical of fans though, take it for granted when Livi keep low prices last season, and have the equal lowest Championship prices too, but get right in about them for a one off cup game.
LiviLion wrote:Have to agree with Bertie, don't think there's an overreaction at all. You've got 3 Glenafton fans (2 adults and a concession), who usually spend under £15 to get into the game, but this week they're spending £50, and that's before we've charged them a fiver to park the car, and before they've had something to eat.

Hopefully the reaction convinces them to rethink and agree on a lower price but it's probably too late anyway.

Yeah I wasn't saying it was fair for Glenafton fans, but Livi fans have paid much more than this for Championship games or even cup games this season, so the reaction from some are def OTT.

Normal league pricing for a game against a non-league side would've been bloody ridiculous, too. Just because supporters pay £18 to watch us play the likes of Caley and Brechin in the league doesn't mean they should be charged more to watch a Junior side. Laughing

A statement explaining the logic behind the prices would be a start.

    Yep.

And if it is a case of it not being agreed on between both clubs and having to go to what our league prices are, why is it the hgher league price and not the lower one. That's the bit I don't get, not too fussed about the price as we haven't had a game for a fortnight and I wont be at QoS, so it'll be over 3 weeks before I go to a league game, but don't see the reason for making it £20 when it could've been £18. Either way they'd prob still have got stick for it right enough, folk were prob expecting about £12.

I haven't noticed any venting of spleens either on here of P&B but I do think its a significantly poor decision from a financial point of view.

I suspect quite a large proportion of season ticket holders will choose not to bother - after all Glenafton have little more appeal than a development league game. this isn't a championship game so its unreasonable to expect people to want to pay as if it was.

I would expect Hopkins to give some of the fringe players a run out here possibly devaluing the game even more.

As things stand I'm finding it difficult to get excited about this game which is a shame because its so rare that we get to play a team other than the usual suspects. And of course there's Scotland vs New Zealand on as well.

Go onto the Livi FB and read comments on there. Read one saying they wont be getting their ST next season because of this.

Can't see Hoppy resting players, 3 weeks between league games so i'd expect him to have our best eleven starting this game. Don't think he even rested players last season when we were playing Celtic colts in the tin pot cup.

Still don't see anything I would label an overreaction to what is a totally ridiculous gate price. If that is the price for a junior team what will they charge if we happen to get a home draw against the currently domestically invincible Celtic?

I was looking forward to this match & the prospect of seeing a team I wouldn't normally see; now I think I'll be parked in front of Soccer Saturday...

This has caused such a stooshie all over the place and is frankly embarresing. My own point of view is one of frustration in that how many times over the years has the club asked us on numerous occasions to sell the club to family, freinds workmates etc.Im sorry but personally i wouldnt have the brass neck to ask any of them to fork out this price for this particular game.I see John Ward has put up an explanation for the reason the club did this but i feel once again the club has lost another opportunity to try and bond with the support and the local comunity not to mention a we show of good will to the Glenafton support who will hopefully enjoy their big day out.Il be there on Saturday but i shudder to guess how many of my fellow supporters will join me and will fully understand if they dont!!!

A fair assessment from John Ward on Facebook regarding this, and he is spot on that the board is caught between a rock and a hard place when considering purely the financial aspect of it. My main gripe from that is that it seems to be a purely financial based decision, in order to minimise the loss of hosting the match. The flip side of that is the amount of money the club could potentially lose in the future by pissing off hundreds of folk by charging scandalous prices for a game against a Junior team.

I'm not sure why he's bringing up the U18s season tickets flopping and the share issue not being taken up in any great numbers. Word of mouth by the supporters can only go so far, the past two fans' forums in the summer has seen advertising tie-ups suggested, in actual fact, folk have been calling for that for as long as I can remember.

That's the adult price down to £18 now. Still OTT but at least it's no more than a league game.

Not sure why what John Ward is saying wasn't included in some way along with the prices. It's understandable that they want to make money and cover the loss but if the prices and advertising were right this could have easily broken 1,000. Fans of other Junior teams will be along to support Glenafton, and Hibs/Hearts/Sellik/Sevco fans would have been interested if not heading to Edinburgh/Glasgow.

I'm a little bit less bitter now but it's still ridiculous they were trying to charge £20 for a game against a Junior team. Can't wait for the next round when it's £40 for the visit of Hamilton.

I think the point he's trying to make is even when they reduce prices for things they don't get a lot of people taking them up so why should they reduce this cup game and think enough people would come to make up the loss. It's the old story of charge less and more will come but in reality more don't come, or at least not enough to make it viable to do so.

On other news, Mackin stating his case for a start against Glenafton, currently on a hattrick against Berwick Rangers in our Development game.

If the club took any suggestions relating to advertising on board, then maybe we wouldn't be banking on the same 500 folk to stump up for home games.

Reckon Saturday's game will suit Mackin to a tee, has been scoring for fun for the U20s and probably has the best minutes per goal ratio out of all our strikers.

For years people have been suggesting even just having a board at the road outside the stadium saying when the next game is. I usually check the website to make sure we've got a game, what hope have the general public got of knowing we're playing?

Think Mackin will start, reckon Knox will too.

    De Vita  -  Mackin
    Cadden  -  Knox  -  Byrne  -  Pittman  -  Jacobs
    Lithgow  -  Gallagher  -  Halkett
    Alexander

If we end up looking like we're on the verge of a cup shock we've got Mullen, Todorov and Mullin we can bring on to turn things round.

    6-0 Livi, FG 12 mins

Not sure if the £2 reduction really does much. Not sufficient to make any difference to the gate numbers so effectively reduces the potential income to the club from the circa 500 die-hards that will turn up.

Of course even reducing the price to a fiver would probably not have made any difference either if the club failed to advertise it.

If we're not playing Alexander I'd rather we played the young keeper, Pettigrew?

Might not be as good as Maley but it could help his development being amongst the first team rather than the U20s.

This is an important game for us, doesn't matter the opposition we can't afford to risk losing. I fully expect Hoppy to field a strong team, and by pricing it at Championship prices he bloody well better do.

Can't see him resting Mullen either, he needs a game with us having a 2 week break, and it would be 3 weeks without a game before QoS next Sat if he doesn't. The players got several days off last week and are well rested, they should be up for this now.

So is Mr Ward's explanation only on FB? If so it isn't good enough, it needs to be on the OFFICIAL club website, not some social networking site.

That said I applaud the reduction to normal gate price; I still think it is too high but I can accept it on the basis that it is the normal price. I realise the £2 difference is such that if I now say that I will go I will look a wee bit petty but for me it is the principle of the thing. I can accept the normal pricing structure (yes I know £20 is the upper limit but that is surely restricted to so-called "bigger" clubs) on principle but not a wrongly inflated one.

Mullen has just picked up one booking since he served his suspension for going over the limit. Dunno about Gallagher and Byrne but both of them will def start, they're part of a 3 man unit in defence and midfield. I think Gallagher needs games too, he's not looked as sharp this season and picked up his booking against Dunfermline because he didn't look confident enough to outrun a Pars player so just fouled him.

Yeah Bertie it's just on FB, that's where most of the comments about the prices were.

Around £6,000 prize money just for showing up and playing this game, so with it costing about £2,000 surely we're not making a loss even if no one turned up?

Don't know why he felt the need to say the bit about paying bills; that will no doubt get the rumour mill grinding out stories again.

So really the bottom line here is we need to get through this round and hope we get an away tie at Celtic, which will only cost the club the price of travelling to & from Glasgow (and wages of course) but would give us a share of a fairly large crowd revenue.
