SPFL Play Offs Empty SPFL Play Offs

Post by Liviforever Wed May 08, 2024 2:15 pm

With our season already decided, and who cares what erse cheek wins the league, yawn, my only interest now is all the play offs.

Everyone has it all to play for in the first round after drawing all the opening games. Which is a better result for the away teams, who all have the 2nd leg home advantage.

And in the League One play offs it's the home teams with a slender lead, but now have to play the 2nd leg away from home.

Partick prevail over Airdrie thanks to a woeful lack of offside flag on their first goal. Airdrie were far better to watch over the 90 minutes. So Thistle v Rovers for a crack at Saints or County.

Accies and Caley for the right to play second tier.

There once was a man from Dumbarton
Who thought he could run like a Spartan

Who’d have thought this Limerick was actually a prophecy? 🤣

Spartans gave Peterheid a right good pasting, hopefully the do the same to the Sons of The Rock

And good luck to East Kilbride down in Stranraer after yesterday’s 2-2 draw

Raith and Dumbarton with 2-1 leads going into the 2nd leg against Partick and Spartans.

If St Johnstone beat County at home tonight, it would decide who joins the Championship semi final winner in the final. If County win, or draw, it's all to play for in the final day of the bottom six fixtures on Sunday.

I think you’ll find that if County win it’s Saints in the play offs and if it’s a draw or a Saints win it goes to the last game.

St Johnstone equalising in the 90th min, they prob only need a draw now, with their GD giving them a 3 goal breathing space. Still could see plenty drama on Sunday.

You really are slipping up LF, Saints are 2 points behind, a draw is no use to them.

I swear the bbc table chart had it the other way around. Laughing

Both going into the last game needing wins then, County to make sure Saints can't catch them, and Saints to have a chance, hoping County lose or draw.

    Dumbarton promoted

raif needed pens after losing 2-1 at home to Thistle and were 3-1 down on pens but won 4-3
Jack Hamilton scored a cracker of a pen in the shoot out but Jack McMillan missed the target completely.

Aye a few ex Livi boys in the play off, thought Raith had blown it, but they're into the final. Hopefully against St Johnstone. Mon the plastics.

Thistle keeper made every effort for his side, I think he went the right way every time and almost saved the ones that went in while the Rovers keeper hardly ever went the right way and relied on two misses.

Kinda felt for Thistle last night.Theve tried for the last few years to get up but failed.Brian Graham will have nightmares about his last minute miss that would have taken them through.Pens are a lottery and Raith took theirs when Partick collapsed.Congrats to Josh Big Jack and Dylan for earning a crack at the Fermers by the look of it,theve definitely got a chance.Good luck to them.👍⬆.

Knew Jack McMillan was missing before he even hit it, had a familiar feeling about his demeanor.

Aye the Partick keeper was spot on diving the right direction for every pen, got his hand to a few too. Thought Robbo still looks a good player too, he'll no doubt haunt us next season.

Dingwall still a possibility Troy, Kettlewell’s Motherwell lay down to the Fermers to send County into the play off with Raith and hopefully the Plastic Fifers will give the top flight plastic nightmares in our absence.

Now i'm conflicted in who i want to win the play offs. Raith for the plastic pitch aspect, annoying the precious top flight dears, and County because they'd throw money at getting back up and prob favourites to win the league.

Dissapointed in Raith last night.Hardly laid a glove on County.Big Jack running around like a headless chicken with no support up front..Feel the second leg will be a formality up there.Fair play to County.Raith will feel their still in it,and I guess they are,but for me an opportunity lost.

Think even we would've beaten Raith in the play offs, until Dylan Easton comes on they looked devoid of an attacking threat. Lumping it up to Hamilton seemed to be their game plan, and clearly didn't work. County were by far the better team, but to Raith's credit, but for a VAR handball decision they weren't looking like conceding.

You'd think County would be better at home though, and score a couple, if Raith don't change their game plan and up their performance a good bit they'll be 3 or 4 behind ( in agg) by HT.

Still think it'll be better for us if County aren't in the Championship, they're losing Dhanda, which is a massive loss, but their owner would prob be chucking money at winning the 2nd tier, and Raith don't look anything for us to fear. Dundee will be releasing Shaun Byrne at the end of the season, would love it if we tried to sign him, still looks a good player at this level, and would be great seeing him and Pittman in our midfield again.

Though tbf Raith did have a better first half performance from the one on Thurs. County just stronger up front.

Yeah but if that's the 2nd best Championship team then we should be there or thereabouts too. Will be pretty competitive with Falkirk coming back up having finally got their act together, and us coming down with the parachute payment giving us a good playing budget.

Unless it gets used to pay the lawyers…

DM has already indicated we are likely to have the 4th best budget making us competitive, if the parachute payment is included in that it can’t be very much.

The upside is that travel costs next season will be minimal with only two 65 mile journeys to Ayr and back being any significant distance.
