Player of the year Empty Player of the year

I notice the OCS is touting the PotY awards night.

It's going to be hard to pick this season, nobody having stood out consistently

    I don't normally go for players that have only played half a season, so that rules out most of the squad. The forwards haven't done enough to merit it which leaves me with a choice of 4 players;

    McCallum; Gordon; Longridge or Pittman

There is still time for the forwards to make an impact so I'll hold off on deciding for now.

I would agree except as I mentioned I don't usually select guys who have only played half a season.

At the moment for me it has to be Jackson Longridge. The only player who has shown progression as a professional and is the player closest to any consistent form.

The forwards have been chopped and changed that much it is difficult for any of them to get a consistent run going.

Earlier in the season Sives and DJ were about the only players to have had a run of games, now one of them is out of favour and the other has been injured for months.

The midfield didn't have much cover so you pretty much knew who would play in that area but now we've signed a few players in Jan it has also had a fair bit of jiggling around done to it.

Basically nobody has been consistent enough, or had enough of a run of games to judge them fairly, so it's difficult to see a stand out player.

This could be the first season where process of elimination may be the best way to choose a PoTY, where the one who has managed to avoid the most criticism wins.

How many players would even be listed for this, I think there are only about 4 or 5 to choose from.

    Looking at the squad up on the OS i'd say;

    Gordon
    Longridge
    Pittman
    White
    Buchanan

The rest have either been punted, just signed, on loan, out injured, fringe players, or just plain shite.

McCallum has played most of the season so would have to be considered every bit as much as the two forwards, neither of whom look likely to match last season's goals scored totals.

    Not entirely true Bertie

Same time last year Buchanan was on 10 goals he finished the season with 17, he is on 11 at present.

Same time last year White was on 11 goals he finished the season with 15 , he is on 10 just now.

So both players have every chance of matching last seasons goals surely.

Just league games left for us but I suppose we might end up in the play offs, was any of Buchanan's goals scored with Alloa in play off games?
White scored 2 in the Petrofac cup final but we're out of that comp.

Agree with you though Smithy, still plenty games to go for them to score a few more goals. We've more chance of supplying them with goal scoring chances now with the likes of Stanton, Kakay, Mullin and Longridge getting up the wings.

Really? Wow! Buchanan finished strongly last year, hope does the same this season.

I honestly didn't think they were close to their totals for the same time last season.

Longridge for me. Compare where he is now to what he was when he got here and the improvement has been impressive, and seems to have gone under the radar a bit. We looked a far poorer side without him on the left hand side against Dumbarton away and away to Raith, and I was chuffed for him that he got his goal against Alloa. His movement especially is probably one of his best assets, granted he doesn't have the pace or tenacity of someone like Talbot but I didn't think at the start of the season that he'd even be half the player Talbot was at this level. Regardless of what league we're in next season, another year or two with us and I could definitely see him moving on to someone at the top end of the Championship/lower end of the Premiership.

Big Shagz in a not-too-distant second place for looking like the only other player who gives a fuck on a regular basis.

I'm putting a word in here for Pitman. There is nothing flamboyant about him but he gets on with things and gives all he's got week in week out. That's what I want from Livi players.

Longridge would qualify for YPoTY wouldn't he?

White getting PoTY would be a good choice, for the LOLS alone he would get my vote, winding up all the haters in our support, Gallagher would be another one, that would get an even bigger reaction from them. Very Happy

Just checked and Buchanan only got one goal in the playoffs last year. White finished strongly previous season with Stirling Albion so I'm sure there is more goals to come from both of them.
As Lf says we now have the midfield players to create chances so we are not finished just yet

Still think it's a bit early to decide this as we really need the players to step up for the last 6 games to keep us up and there are some big performances to come from them if we're to do that. So someone could still stand out and be a hero deserving it.

At the moment after the Falkirk game White edges it for me as PoTY and Longridge would be my YPoTY.

The passion he shows should drive him on in our next few games, he really came up with the goods last season too, the Cowden games stands out above all the rest for me, need the big fella to have more of that to keep us up again.

White for me too LF , passion was there on Saturday like the Cowdenbeath game last season and his performance at the Falkirk Stadium was brilliant to watch topped off by a goal.

Top scorer two seasons in a row, think he may deserve POTY in one of the seasons.

Would love White and Buchanan to build up a good partnership together and form an understanding for both of them to score goals and set one another up. Could do with a settled team to give them the chance to do that though.

Maybe next season if we keep Hopkin in charge and he gets a fair chance at competing in the league we wont be in this position a 3rd time (providing we stay up this season right enough).

A bit of continuity with the same manager, and being able to keep a core of the best players so he only needs to add a few more to strengthen his squad, and a decent pre season. That's what we need to have the best chance of competing for the top end play offs and staying away from the bottom ones. Not the chopping and changing which gave us an unsettled team for most of the season.

Longridge for YPOY, probably have to go for White for POTY (Gallagher would've been a shout if he was still at the club...)

Based on what I've seen I would probably be forced to go with breaking my own rule & selecting a player who has only been here for half the season but has been outstanding, Halkett for both awards.

They should just cancel this completely. Regardless of whether Shagz is a cult hero and he's one of our top scorers with Buchanan, or Jacko has shown his worth in this division for a lot of games, this team has collectively failed along with the management team and shouldn't be rewarded with a night such as this.

I wonder if the management team will be mortified when they attend? If they are attending?
I think it is just the club trophies (are there any?) and Davy Cairns trophies that are being presented at the event. The others seem to be banned again.

I think im right in saying that Aston Villa cancelled their P O Y awards due to the ineptness and general feeling of depresion surrounding that club.Ring any bells.Just saying of course.
