Betfred cup kick off on Saturday, good to get the hardest game out of the way first.

So far we've competed well in pre season games against Premiership teams, but we've yet to score a goal, i'd be happy with a 0-0 draw here and maybe win on penalties to get a bonus point.

On current trend we're likely to concede a goal and lose 1-0 though but ever the optimist i'll go for us getting our first goal with a score draw.

Livi 1-1 Partick Th. FG 59 mins.

A routine 2-0 victory for Partick, FG 31 mins. Our record against teams in the top tier has been awful in the last ten years.

Based purely on them finishing in the top 6 last season & us being held goalless so far by 2 sides the finished above & 1 they nearly caught....

And the fact we often don't do well against "PT" teams  Very Happy

Actually I have to say that was a really well prepared match preview.

It was indeed, good reading. Wonder if it is the same match preview that will be used in the MDM, certainly good enough.

I'd assume it is considering it said "today" all the time despite being put up yesterday. Was a good read and hoping we get similar for the other games.

Only took Thistle 14 mins to score & sounds like an error at the back.

Each side then had a goal disallowed.

    HT 0-1

47 mins and Keaghan Jacobs bags the first Livi goal of the new season which sounds like a decent effort. 1-1

Alexander makes a hat trick of saves in the penalty shoot out for the extra point.

Livi win 3-1 on pens and get 2 points while Thistle get just the 1

St Mirren top the group after whipping Stranraer

Good start for us. 2nd in the table a point behind St Mirren, win against them on Tuesday would set us up well to win the group. Reckon they're better than Partick though so will be a tricky game.

Can't imagine that St Mirren (great escape last season or not) are better than a side that finished 6th in the top tier last season...but then I couldn't imagine anything more than a loss for us today so what do I know lol!

    cheers cheers cheers

Dodgy defending at the start of the game, Dec losing the ball just outside our box and then got turned inside out before they scored. We got away with one a few minutes earlier to that too, kept giving Thistle chances to get at Alexander without them having to do too much themselves. However we settled down and looked the better team for most of the game.

Didn't see too much wrong with our disallowed goal, didn't foul the keeper, just didn't move out the way to let him through which isn't a foul, certainly wasn't obstruction. Same ref as the Sunderland game and he was just as bad allowing Thislte players to push and body check Livi players all game, lost count of the fouls on Mullen that went unpunished. Ironically the first time we did it back to them with Lithgow, we got a foul against us. Typical too that the fisrt booking went to a Livi player.

Ref rant over, lol!  Pittman was unlucky not to get a goal just before HT when he was through on goal and got the rebound from the keeper saving his shot but couldn't get it on target. Absolute belter of a goal for Keaghan at the start of the 2nd half, some goal to open our account, was worth the wait.

On the balance of play we thoroughly deserved the bonus point, bit disappointed at not getting all 3, we deserved to. Class penalty shoot out though, Livi scoring ours and Alexander saving 3, brilliant keeper.

Some folk missed the pens too, saw a few leaving after the ref blew the final whiste, bet they're kicking themselves when they got home and saw we won the bonus point. Laughing

Looked like a decent performance from the lads, well done to them and huge welcome home to Neil Alexander after the shoot out performance.

Reminds me of the good times when Broto was in goals, he was superb at saving pens too, really makes up for Buchanan leaving having a keeper as good as Alexander to save our asses.

Also worth noting how quickly we came out the traps after HT, Keaghan scoring in the first minute, that was one of your gripes with Hoppy's HT talk sending them to sleep last season. Our fitness from the pre season is excellent, we're full of zip all game and aren't dropping off at all towards the end of the game.

Yeah, not just with Hoppy last season either, it had been a "thing" since the two Johnnies were in charge & Hoppy was just the latest who couldn't seem to change it. If this is a sign of things to come, where we come out of the traps like a house on fire (to mix my metaphors) then kudos to him for addressing that issue.

Impressive performance, I think we deserved to get something out of that game and it's good to see that we never fell apart in the second half rather than let Partick see out the rest of the match. We also looked a lot sharper which is encouraging for the start of the season.
