Post by Liviforever Sun Mar 27, 2016 3:17 am

An absolute must win game to get us in a position to put pressure on Dumbarton, we could even go above them if things go our way. The win against Falkirk will count for nothing if we lose or draw this game, so no feck ups by Cole giving away goals please.

It'll either be a nervy affair or we get right in about them and stick 4 or 5 past them, hopefully the latter. Big Shags to get a hattrick, Buchanan and Pittman for the other 2. Mon the Lions lets do this. bounce

    5-0 Livi, fg 7 mins.

So now we've about finished with the Falkirk game thread is nobody wanting to talk about this game?

Hugely important game here, with the tough games against bigger clubs and ones we've struggled against this is a game we have to take 3 points from.

Never know how Alloa games will go, we have had 2 comfortable wins over them away from home but we struggled to break them down in our home game and lost, can't afford for that to happen again.

Mon the Lions, high tempo right from the start and blow them away.

Normally this would be reasonably easy to predict but hey its Livi we;re talking about here.Yes confidence should be high after last weeks result against the Bairns and if the strikers are up for this they could have a field day here.Personally any kind of win regardless of the result is surely a priority tommorow. We have to be ruthless and show no mercy at this most critical stage of the season even knowing we can relegate them, although a massive favour from wee Bobby and his Morton mates at Dumbarton would really put the cat among the pidgeons though i wouldnt rely to heavily on that happening.Regardless of the above we have to concentrate on ourselves and not allow Mr Ballsup to make an unwanted appearance.Shades of last seasons escape starting to nibble away at me.Cmon livi you can do it AGAIN.!!!.

If you start the same tactics against 10th place Alloa as you did against 3rd place Falkirk then you deserve to go down. Unfortunately that was us.

No balance in the team; once again no urgency; and no outdoing of tactics against the worst team this league has had in a long time. Jack Ross certainly knows how to set a team up at Livingston.

11 points out of 24 against Dumbarton and Alloa for us this season. Absolutely toilet.

Agreed on all counts. Even if the pen had been given doesn't mean we'd have scored. We had a few decent moments in the first half and towards the end of the game but it was a very poor effort and they had just as many chances as we did.

Halkett was the MotM for us.

Why do we always lower our standard of play against the likes of Alloa?

Why was White being played as a wide midfielder?

Why were high balls being aimed at Buchanan?

Why did Hopkin publicly berate McCallum for not hurrying up a kick out? We saw the result when he did hurry the kick out, it was a wasted clearance.

Why was Neill played at left back when Kakay was available?

We are not consigned to the play off yet but we need another "Falkirk" result.

OK we were absolute rank today, no getting away from that. But those officials were even worse.

Games like this are often decided on fine margins like player error and lets face it we have committed more than a few this season.

However Refs and their assistants must get THEE big decisions correct like offsides, penalties red cards etc. That today looked an absolute howler from Muir and his assistant. Livi have been on the wrong end of poor decisions from him over the last few seasons, remember the penalty awarded against Mango I think when the ball hit him square on the face. Not a good day.

So its on to Easter Road on Tuesday night against a Hibs team that can hardly buy a win just now. What's the betting that'll change on Tuesday.

Could have played for days and not scored against that mob. Tactics were all wrong, that games was crying out for some pace aroubd the 60th minute, why Kaykay was not brought on I'll never know. Lastly why sub Charlie Telfer, the only player on the park that has any quality.

I get why Hopkin was trying to get Mccalum to get the distribution a bit quicker, what I dont get was why that was the most vocal thing in the whole match. This team are done.

Couldn't be arsed coming on here earlier after that result, 2 points chucked away and with all the other games ending in a draw we threw away the chance to go above Dumbarton.

Firstly the penalty decision, or decision not to give us it when it looked well inside the box and Sheerin was all set to score when he was chopped down. Really can't believe we didn't get it and get the rub of the green we've severely lacked this season.

Thought Stanton was fouled in the box in the first half too but he stumbled on and stayed on his feet so the ref didn't give us it, prob should've just went down but imo it should still be a penalty as he was fouled and put off his stride, which put him off enough to stop that move going anywhere.

Onto Hopkin's formation, it was all wrong, just like earlier games when Burchill was in charge when we played Dumbarton and Alloa at home, we set the team up to not lose rather than going out to win, and tbh we could easily have lost had Alloa been any good in front of goal. Far too negative from Hopkin playing a crap team at home.

We missed Longridge getting down the left wing but Hopkin didn't even try to replace him with anyone that would do the wingback role, instead he sticks Neill a CB to just play a defensive LB role.

White in midfield instead of being up front with Buchanan was also frustrating, get wingers playing to give us width and 2 up in the centre and we'd have buried them.

If we beat Hibs on Tues it'll make up for this result, it'll prob suit us playing them and doing what we did to Falkirk too so here's hoping we can pull off another big result and do it the hard way.

Was the same when we played Morton in the cup and he brought on Knox and left Hippo on the bench. Kakay should've been brought on the same time as Mullin to give up wide players to fire balls into White, who should've been moved into the centre along with Buchanan. Really frustrates me that Hopkin wont use the wings when we've the players to do so.

Great that he set us up perfectly to beat Falkirk but he needs to change formation to who we're playing.

OK - my first game for a while , after spitting the dummy at how poor we are and the lack of tactics, but after the result at Falkirk , i decided to attend.

The result against Falkirk must have been a fluke.
Alloa had a better fighting spirit than us but most importantly they had TACTICS and a GAMEPLAN.
    Hopkins is clueless.
We look so disjointed its embarrassing.

I'm just the same as most others watching that game yesterday.
It was terrible worst game of the season so far.

But then I've thought about it looked at the practical point of view.
We did the job of relegating Alloa so we can't get automatically relegated.
I will put up stats later to prove Hopkin is doing a decent job, far better than Burchill and we are on our best run of results all season.

So feel sorry for Livikev, as game was rubbish, but the one thing about us now is that we do have a gameplan as results against Falkirk proves.

We have only lost one game in our last six which is decent.

Keep the faith folks we are on the right track

Wish i could share your opptomism Smithy but alas even Morton doing us a favour wasnt enough for us to put pressure on Dumbarton.Yes it was eye bleeding watching that yesterday and once again we got our tactics wrong by playing players out of position. The stand side linesman couldnt get up the tunnel quick enough knowing the barating he was going to get after denying us a match winning opportunity that everyone in the stadium saw so clearly. Its going to take some kind of wonder result somewhere in the remaining games we have left to turn this around. I fear though the games are gonna run out and we will end up in the nervewraking that is the playoffs. So dissapointing after giving us a bit of hope, but there again its Livi we;re talking about here.always do it the hard way.

We are on a decent run, it just doesn't seem like that after yesterday, but this is our best run of games in the season.

We have only lost one game in our last six and have the best points tally in the league with the exception of Raith and Rangers in the last six league games.

We can get get 8th position if we keep this run going.

Certainly think we can take something from the Hibs games we have won 11 points from last six games, Hibs only 4.

Cmon why all this doom and gloom

    The facts suggest otherwise

We are on a decent run, but ffs it was Alloa we were playing, this was our easiest game left to play and we blew taking 3 points from it by duff tactics. It's like Warburton, he only knows how to play one way and when teams change how they play against Sevco he doesn't know what to do and just sticks to the same plan A tactics, which gives everyone an advantage of knowing how to counter it.

Fortunately for us we've not got too many teams left where our plan A tactic will go against us, Hibs, Sevco & QoS will throw everything at us, Morton & Raith have the better of us though as they don't, and will hit us on the counter and set up more defensively. We don't have an answer to teams when they keep a strong line of defence and we can't catch them on the break with space in behind their defence.

I absolutely believe we can beat Raith in the last game but if we set up the same as yesterday we're fecked.

I'm surprised you're buying into it Smithy, yeah I know you like looking at plain stats and don't bother about complex details, such as our on form striker being put in midfield and not being in the box to get onto balls for him to score. However White is your main man and he was being used to set up Buchanan instead of being in there getting on the end of balls into the box. Buchanan was having high balls fired up to him too, ffs even White up front alone struggles to do anything with balls constantly hit over his head, what chance has Buchanan!!

And another thing..... Why why why was Knox asked to take the free kick that should have been a penalty with his first touch of the game? That should have been the responsibility of the main free kick taker not the alleged wunderkind that has maybe kicked the ball a dozen times in his senior career!

Smithy your optimism is blinding you to reality, stats only tell part of the story, but if you want stats the most important stats in our two home games against the worst team to play at this level for many a long year is "Livingston 0" and frankly that has been down to two inept performances (at least they tried this time) and mainly atrocious tactics. The Alloa keeper looked dodgy, the defence panicked whenever we ran at them but time and again we played a high ball to our wee-est striker who plays better facing the goal he is attacking and had our tallest striker out on the wing trying to keep the ball in play by heading it back into the mix.

More to the point why was Knox brought on at all, why wasn't it Kakay, and at the same time as Mullin so he'd have had plenty of time to influence the game.

I can only imagine Hopkin was going for the headlines it would've made had Knox scored, the media would've been all over it. Seems we're going for media hype to sell Knox over what's best to win games.

Mullin & Kakay down the wings with White & Buchanan getting in the box. Looked like Hopkin was quite happy to finish 0-0 and relegate Alloa though and wasn't wanting to risk an attacking formation. Truth of the matter was though, Alloa looked more likely to score than us in the dying minutes so it was actually more risky keeping things as they were.
