Delighted with that signing. By my reckoning Keaghan must only be around 40 to 50 games away from becoming the record appearance holder for us, so provided he stays next season he'll more than likely take over the mantle.
I think he's been our best player since we were relegated from the SPL, certainly in the top 3. Hopefully his lay-off from injury hasn't affected him too much and he can get a bit of a run out tomorrow.

Actually I'd go so far as to suggest that if he'd been playing with us last season we probably wouldn't have been demoted. Surprised no-one else came in for him actually. With all due respect to Kyle he was a shadow of the player his brother was.

Absolutely. A midfield containing a fully fit Keaghan Jacobs would be a delight for any team in the second-tier, hopefully we can tie him down to a longer contract come the end of the season. AFAIK, trying his luck in South Africa with the intention of gaining international caps was always one of his ambitions, and the club could not have stood in his way.
I'm very chuffed that he's chosen to come back here instead of elsewhere. I'd be astounded if he didn't have any other offers since he has returned to Scotland.

Im as delighted with this signing as everyone else. Maybe we didn't appreciate Keaghan enough previously. Hopefully his injury hasn't set him back too much and he enjoys his second stint with us. Atleast he went over to SA and put himself out there, disappointing it didn't work out for him over there but its our gain.

Re: Jan 2017 Transfers In/ Out
Like the rest of you I'm delighted to see Keaghan back. Squad number is 14... could only have been better if it was 13 (my favourite number).
Hoppy has given himself an enormous headache though; we have more midfielders than you can shake a stick at. We're still a little light up front with only 3 recognised forwards (4 if we put Rafa up front but so far we haven't done that) & a little centre back heavy in defence with no real RB & no real alternative LB (by that I mean our RB is really a CB & our alternate LB is also really a CB). And we need a fully signed keeper.
So the squad is somewhat imbalanced, which is ironic given that when we began the season it was pretty well balanced albeit lacking a dedicated RB

Re: Jan 2017 Transfers In/ Out
We're well covered in midfield and in the CB dept, and adequately covered up front, we'd need 3 injuries to the strikers to knacker us and I can't see that happening. Would say we're fine for FB's too so can't see any problems with the squad we have, other than the good one of having that many quality players how do you keep them all happy starting them all, which is a healthy problem to have.
The goal keeper is a problem for next season, and tbh Kelly has been decent but like DJ after his decent season, shouldn't be difficult to replace next season.
It gives us one hell of a bench for the rest of the season anyway, and options coming out of Hoppy's ears. He's done the hard work in the first half of the season getting us 9 points clear and after the Jan transfer window we look even stronger, replacing squad players making up the numbers for players that will be pushing starting 11 players out onto the bench.

Can't disagree with your comment on replacing squad players with serious starting XI contenders.
I still think we need a recognised, dedicated RB and a fully signed keeper of at least Kelly's level, possibly better for 2nd tier football.
I agree we have decent players in the forward positions but IMO we need another. We may not get multiple injuries at the same time... but we could conceivably get an injury and 2 off form at the same time.

I think we've got more strikers of a good quality than any other team in League One though, most only have one good striker, we've got 3. We've went for overkill in defence and midfield though so why not go with 4 strikers. We had 2 on 2 off in some games under Bollan right enough, with Robbie Winters, Rafa, Deuchar, Russell and McNulty to choose from.

McMillan's signed for Clyde, so if we're looking for a proper RB it'll be someone else. I fear though that we'll go with Crighton for RB and Lithgow/Longridge for LB till the end of the season.

Re: Jan 2017 Transfers In/ Out
Not that bothered about a RB this season but for feck sake I wish Hopkin would stop playing Lithgow at LB. At least Crighton looks to go forward, he pushed up and was putting crosses in from the wing even when he was playing at CB so it isn't unnatural to him, but you can see Lithgow is a CB playing LB and his instinct stops him from going up the wing. When he gets the ball he will always play safe and either launch it or just play it back to Kelly, he just isn't a LB/wingback and looks awkward playing there.
He's starting to fit square pegs in round holes now, he's got a good squad of players but he needs to drop some of them and play the players suited for the positions on the park. Thank goodness we only have one first choice keeper signed or he'd prob stick one in goal and the other in midfield, just to give him a game.

Re: Jan 2017 Transfers In/ Out
I'd like to see us sign Dean Brett from Cowdenbeath. One of the best right backs in the lower leagues, and the appeal of leaving a bottom of the table L2 club with the potential to be playing full-time in championship would be too good to turn down, you'd imagine.
Not sure the latest with the boy Bikey from Stirling, would be good to see him sign as well.

Manager David Hopkin said “Nikolay will give us a different option up top, he will be an asset in both boxes for the team. He is a big, strong, powerful player and very good in the air; good with both feet and knows where the goal is.
Gives us something different then, all of our other strikers are quite small.

Re: Jan 2017 Transfers In/ Out
I really hate it when managers say "he knows where the goal is" - I should blooming well think so, he's a professional and us amateurs up in the stands know where they are as well!
Apparently he has 6 career goals, 5 for Cowdenbeath in 20 games. So he's hardly prolific.
Who was the other Bulgarian we had?

He spent most of his time at Cowden at CB for some reason.
Georgiev was the last Bulgarian we had, completely forgot about him and for some reason was thinking Praprotnik at first.

Of course, Giorgiev. I'd forgotten wee Spaz. Yeah, he looked like he might be useful but was largely useless.

He's only 20 but there are teenagers scoring goals in the Premiership so age doesn't stop you scoring goals at any level. 6ft 3 so at least gives us something different up front, bit like Deuchar did when we signed him to win this league under Bollan. Would at least give us a proper target man for a plan B if we were struggling against the likes of QP, Rovers or East Fife.

Notice there are 2 trialist in what looks like defensive positions going by the line up, in our U20's team tonight, wounder if we're still looking to bring in players, hopefully FB's and not more CB's.

Re: Jan 2017 Transfers In/ Out
Suppose if he's tall it is something different from what we've got, although judging by Cowden fans' comments on P&B, I'm not holding out much hope for the boy. Bizarre we've signed a striker when the full back positions are still a problem, hopefully the trialists tonight are a solution as LF's said.

As has been said before, played at CB for Cowden, so you can't judge the boy on that. I guess we will see... Disappointing as I guess that means we aren't getting Bikey from Stirling, he seems to be knocking them in for fun.

Agreed. It is lack of ability that does that.
A 20 year old who is a serious contender for a starting position should already be showing that he can do it.
We have had tall target men already this season...both of whom have already left and who only got fleeting chances when they were here & were regularly out wide when they should have been in the middle. And yet when the smaller guys were on the ball was getting lumped up to them.
Can't help thinking we are top despite some of the tactics employed this season. Undoubtedly tactics have been right for many games or we wouldn't be where we are but lumping it up to wee guys does my head in.

Really cant get my head around this one. Why do we need another forward?
