Well it is official now, Neil Alexander is our number one keeper this season.

Fantastic signing, when he was first mentioned as being available I didn't think we had a hope in hell of signing him, esp with our budget this season, what a signing.

He must be up there in the top 3 keepers we've had at Livi, alongside Broto and McKenzie.

Wouldn't be in my top list of Livi keepers, maybe Rab Douglas would get in though.

I thought both played well tonight. They would be a loss to the team and it's getting a bit near the beginning of the season to find replacements.

I think we'd get by without Knox as our midfield is pretty strong, but Mullen would be a huge loss up front. Unless we get a proven goal scorer to replace him we'd struggle to stay up this season. Hope to hell Cardiff don't sign him.

I wouldn't get too hung up about it for now considering it's a trial. We've seen a lot of players in the past go on trial to English clubs and a transfer hasn't followed up. But Mullen deserves his chance if you consider that he's been a member of the first team squad for five years. He's definitely got potential to go on to bigger and better things.

And if we do sell them in this window then I'm sure the board will trust Hopkin to find as close to a replacement like Mullen (at least). The problem is though if you sign a player and his wages are any higher than members of the current squad, then they'll be knocking on the door asking for an increased wage.

I do hope you're not implying Cardiff is in England Shocked

Why do clubs keep taking our players for trials once the competitive season has started - it happened last season as well didn't it?

Ultimately though some transfer fees may be needed to balance the books this season.

Are all our players on the exact same wage then, I doubt it, people in all businesses get different salaries, but we've prob set a limit.

Yeah Knox has had several trials and not been sold, Sevco made an offer which was knocked back so depends what we're looking for. Whatever the magic number is though, if we do sell Mullen we'd better get a replacement like Andy Ryan or we'll be dicing with relegation, and that'll be a bigger disaster financially.

Apparently Crystal Palace are submitting a bid for Knox, Leeds Utd are after him too, lets get a bidding war started.

There was a guy I didn't recognise sitting along from me taking notes on a sort of formatted team sheet the other night at the Sunderland game.

Weird one this... thought he'd be part of our back 3 with Halkett & Gallagher. Can only think we've a couple of CB's lined up.. one first team and a backup.

Would've rather lost Lithgow than Crighton.

Hope that doesn't mean Cadden is on the way out too then, him and Crighton haven't featured in any pre season games.

Lithgow has done ok, got caught when pressed in the Sunderland game but he did well most of the game. Crighton was good getting up the wing to put crosses in but we look like going with a back 3 this season and leaving the wingers to do the job as wing backs. As I mentioned on the match thread, the trialist that came on for Gallagher looked decent, he'd do as a back up, and pushing for a starting place.

That's disappointing. I'd rather he'd not gone to one of our rivals.
After a rush of players coming in not that long ago it's all been about players potentially leaving this week. Sad

Didn't really need both Lithgow and Crighton, we shoehorned 4 CB's into our defence last season but we wouldn't have gotten away with that in the Championship, nippy wingers would've ripped us apart. Will prob have to sign a replacement back up CB though, Crighton obv wasn't wanting to be 2nd choice to Lithgow.

Maybe JGT could be worth a punt, I think he's still available.

Reckon we need 2 CBs now, especially if we're playing 3 at the back, which is looking most likely. Worried for St Mirren next week... guessing Knox & Mullen won't feature with them being away down south as well.

Also just seen we've released the young boy Craig Reid as well... guessing he wouldn't have featured with so many centre mids.

For the purposes of football Cardiff, Swansea, Newport & Wrexham are "English" clubs and would represent England in European competition if the won English competitions or finished high enough in the league. In years gone by they used to compete in the Welsh Cup to gain access to the European Cup Winners Cup but that was knocked on the head, possibly before the ECWC "died" itself.

It was patently obvious towards the end of last season that Hoppy preferred Lithgow to Crighton. The former started a lot more matches than the latter after we switched to a back 3 regularly; so I wouldn't say it was weird in the slightest.

I fully understand his reasons for leaving & wish him well but I hope we give Brechin 4 pastings (again) in the season ahead

Feck me Brechin are taking all our fringe players. http://www.brechincity.com/bcfc/servlet/BCFCFrontControllerServlet?action=News&page_id=1905&category=2

Thought Sinclair looked quite good any time he got a game but he was never getting a regular sub appearance never mind a starting place, good signing for Brechin.

Sorry but I used to live in Mid Glamorgan and went to the Bluebirds on several occasions. I can absolutely guarantee that if you go and choose to call them Eglish you will receive a far far worse reaction than if you tried the same with Glasgow Celtic.
