Just seen Burchill up the centre with Hugo Faria...walking about like the best of pals...looks positive for him joining us permanently

Said again in an interview he hopes to bring in another 1 or 2 players this week, said that last week and signed Gallagher so with our midfield injuries I'd say it is likely Faria will be signed up before we play Raith.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
i really hope so and a decent wide player wouldn't go wrong either. Hugo for definite and if we can get another player then a wide player would be good.Liviforever wrote:Said again in an interview he hopes to bring in another 1 or 2 players this week, said that last week and signed Gallagher so with our midfield injuries I'd say it is likely Faria will be signed up before we play Raith.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
Hang on.... Last week everyone was saying "the squad is too big" " This is madness, we'll be in financial meltdown in no time" "what idiot has sanctioned this?" "Pay off McDougall and forego another signing"
What has changed?
What has changed?

I'd agree with Bertie. From a financial POV I'd be uncomfortable with any further signings.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
Pretty sure both Smithy and I were wanting us to sign Faria last week too.
We're covered pretty well in defence and up front and tbh could get by without Sives* and Glen being signed, apart from that I'd be happy with what we have in squad size with Faria included. Nothing against Sives but having Gallagher, Gordon, Cole and Neill would've been plenty, and Glen just hasn't shown enough consistency for me to get my juices flowing. He will hopefully make me change my mind about that but just now he's at the bottom of the list in midfielders I'd put in the team.
*Perhaps harsh on Sives as I doubt we'd have signed another CB if the Gallagher situation hadn't arose and the 4 we had signed would've been plenty.

yes you are correct LF me and you have wanted Hugo signed for weeks now .Liviforever wrote:Pretty sure both Smithy and I were wanting us to sign Faria last week too.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
Whatever, but some folk were definitely saying those things.
Lexi, you misunderstand me...I'd be quite happy if we sign Faria, he looked useful. I'm just saying some folk were bleating about overstretching the budget on players, but not so much now....club statement saying the playing squad is possibly the smallest in the division & the cost of wages has been slashed have anything to do with that I wonder?

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
I guess the problem this year and last year was the youth... In years gone by we would have seen them play a few games before, and we would have faith in them to bulk out the team and the main body.... Whereas now; who has a clue? I hope they are decent, but with no real competitive games what is the point in being a player??
I saw Callum Carsons comparative squad lists on twitter too, and we are about middle... I don't think a journeyman midfielder is going to break us.
It will just be all the unpaid tax and court orders that do....

Matt Gould (no12) signed up to challenge DJ for the GK spot.
Just leaves the no8 shirt to fill.

well we need to get another centre mid in because Pittman and Gibbons are not going to be the long term answer.Liviforever wrote:Matt Gould (no12) signed up to challenge DJ for the GK spot.

I did forecast that there would be occasions when both teams would wear second choice kits even when there was no colour clash did I not?

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
We need a bit more experience, especially in the centre of the park. Not sure if Faria is the correct option or not, however he is an older head and we are really lacking that this season.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
Good stuff, not sure where that leaves Cole now but Faria is a solid looking midfielder so a good signing that we've been needing.
Really think Burchill needs to sort out the CB situation as we're a bit unbalanced using Gallagher as a RB, Cole as a LB and accommodating Sives as CB when Gallagher is clearly better playing there with Gordon. He needs to balance the team up with players playing where they should be, Millen & Longridge as FB, Gallagher as CB.

Interesting; obviously keen to work with Mark again?

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
If he can build on what he showed against Real Soc then he will do a job.
LF - The CM pairing could be Cole/Faria until we get some points on the board. Or we could have. GGC back 3 with a midfield 5 of Hippo, Pittman, Gibbons, Faria and Longridge or Millen depending which side Hippo is on, with ant 2 from Buchanan, White, Mullen and Sheerin up front, But we'll just have to wait and see

Transfer deadline day latest:
Mesut Ozil and Danny WelbecK positively identified in Greggs buying a steak bake for lunch
I kid you not - honest injun.

And they've just been joined by Alex Song whilst heading off the Costa coffee for a Cappuccino.

Left-backs Kieran MacDonald (Hamilton) and Kevin McHattie both released in the past few days, worth a look at?

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
Weren't you one of the 'we've got too big a squad' posters that didn't think we should've signed Gallagher?
Doubt we'll add to the squad now, I think Faria was Burchill's last and final signing.
