Btw, I was in the same year group at the same uni as the fella who wrote that for the EEN. Him and his journalist pals were the biggest gimps going. Not a clue about football - would print any old shite to help their own careers.

EEN now reporting Craig Thomson has "turned down" a move to us in January to stay with Newtongrange until the end of the season.
Thanks for that, you dodgy bastard.

In further news, Mourinho is in advanced talks with Livi about signing for us, however next week I may announce that he's turned us down rather than admit I just made the whole thing up.

Maybe the EEN should stick to reporting about rugby instead of printing shite like this about Livi. What an embarrassingly shite U-turn from yet another tabloid rag.

Craig Thomson turned us down? Aye, good one EEN. Pathetic stuff from them. What even worse is people actually bought this farce of a story to begin with.

Mark Fotheringham signs on and Hugo Faria is released. I'd imagine that's like for like in terms of wages given the journeyman status of the pair of them.

The same mark fotheringham that was with us before? If so its a decent signing...liked the look of him before, thought he controlled the midfield....definitely better than faria

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
Yeah he's a lot more skilful than Faria, scored a cracking free kick against Falkirk in that 3-4 away game iirc. should be a good addition to the team, experience and skill on the ball.
Promising start by Hopkin, if he can clear out a few of the utility players like Spas, and bring in quality like this then we'll at least have a better looking squad.

He's promised to strengthen the squad and I think that's a good start, was good for us last time so hopefully still has the ability.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
I thought Faria was doing a job for us. He was one of the few to get a pass for effort from me last week. He has been a regular and is match fit yet he goes and we bring in someone who has not played this season.
Overall I was never impressed by Fotheringham before. He had the odd good game but was never consistent enough for me.
I am happy for those not playing to go and be replaced but this is not adding anything as far as I am concerned.
I guess this is because Faria's contract was up in January whereas the others will not be so easy to release.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
Faria put in the effort but was limited in ability, basically made the body check challenges to get the ball and then gave it to someone that could pass it. Was doing a job for us but Fozzy gives us something different, he can work with Pittman to set up goals for the strikers. May well give us the link up play in midfield between defence and the strikers that we've been missing, is more a forward passing player than a back passing one anyway.
Gibbons can do what Faria did. Obv not in as much of a physical way but certainly gets stuck in to win balls.
Would like to see players like Spas and Moses moved on, one hasn't played much and the other hasn't played at all, no good to us if we're not playing them.

I'll be delighted if Fotheringham does well for us. I seem to remember thinking he had a good opinion of himself and wanted everything done his way. Maybe that's what we need just now though. Who knows.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
St Mirren fan on P&B saying he was on trial with them last week and played in an U 20's game but looked a bit out of shape. We expected that anyway as he hasn't played this season, meant to be going straight in against Morton though so we'll see how he gets on. Maybe give him and Glen a half each, would perhaps shake Glen up a bit seeing his position wasn't assured anymore..

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
I seem to remember he was more of a Keaghan Jacob in the centre of midfield; though he went to Dundee though?
As far as Glen is concerned I always though that Georgiev was a more suitable replacement whenever I've seen him although, for whatever reason, he doesnt seem to be in favour.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
Liked Hugo but at the end of the day, he was a bright spark in a very dull team. Not convinced Fozzy will do much for us, he was alright when he was here before, but nothing to get excited about.
Hoping a few other players are released, Moses, Spas, Cole... Even Glen, he's garbage.
We really need a striker with pace who is able to swing balls in, at the moment we don't have that option at all, which means every ball is going down the middle, making it easier for teams to break it down.

Faria was an average player with minimal technique although his best games were against better opposition. Fotheringham is the more ideal replacement after we released O'Brien.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
From memory Fotheringham doesn't possess the skills to harry opposition players or get stuck in, but as others have pointed out Gibbons should be more than adept at taking that ball-winning role on in midfield by himself. I'm curious as to what effect Fotheringham will have on our midfield, from what I've seen this season our midfield floats in and out of games and when they're rank rotten, the team as a whole usually is rotten.
Agree that the likes of Georgiev, Moses, et al. should be moved on, no need to have unnecessary wages on the bill when they can't add anything different to what we've got. Moses in particular has been a real disappointment, given his run of injuries. Was reading on P&B we're linked with Tom Walsh of Sevco on loan, not getting rave reviews but if he's pacy, at least we'd actually have one winger capable.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
It's quite sad how chuffed I am with the re-signing of Fotheringham. He should hopefully add some class to our play. Thumbs up to Hopkin so far, wasting no time getting rid of the surplus and bringing in proper experienced players. Faria definitely put shifts in when he played but some people are bordering the teary eyed, describing him as a 'great servant' to the club. Couldn't fault his commitment but I'm not gutted to see him go. Hope Hippo is next to get his P45.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
IIRC Fozzy pulled the strings in midfield when he was here, even though it was only 11 games. I think he wanted to stay longer but we couldn't afford him...or possibly he played for nowt but we were unable to free up a wage for him and he got an offer of wages elsewhere. Anyhow, I'm sure Sinky was dropped to make room for him and then came back in again with better awareness after Fozzy left.
The one downside is perhaps his age, he's no spring chicken anymore and as others have said he'll not be match fit

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
Im just happy that for a change some good news is coming out of the club after all the recent shennanigins.I agree that Hugo did his best with his up and at them displays, but unfortunatly they were few and far between.Like others i wish him well for the rest of his career. As for Mark Fotheringham i seem to recall lots of opposing fans bemused that he had signed for us the last time. Most said at the time that he should have been plying his trade higher than where we were at the time. For what its worth would be great if he could rediscover the quality he no doubt had last time he pulled on the shirt.Time will tell and i for one wish him well on his return.WELCOME BACK FOZZY.

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
Bit disappointed about Hugo leaving, but as Burchil went there wasn't really any reason for him to stay.
Callum Carson says that Walsh is coming along with Sam Stanton on loan from Hibs, I remember him getting a few plaudits a while back, so can hopefully do a job for us.
Would like to know where this cash is coming from, don't see teams in the same league as us loaning us players for free...

Re: Transfer Rumours, Players In/Out
Loving the people on Facebook using Hugo's departure as another reason to berate the club. His contract was up and he decided to leave, what part of that are they not getting?
Anyway, good stuff from Hopkin if we're getting Stanton and Walsh, hopefully we won't be paying their wages though, would imagine Hibs and Rangers pay a bit more than we can. Pleased so far, hopefully still be pleased in a few weeks if we can get some wins.

Positive moves after the initial meh reaction to the Hopkin appointment. Tom Walsh and Sam Stanton both got really positive responses at first then tailed off.
Darren Cole and Spas should be moved on. I've said it before but I'd like to see Moses get a chance before we punt him but the management obviously don't rate him. Just makes it bemusing that he was signed in the first place.

Are either of them cup tied?
Wonder if they'll be allowed to play against their own club, we've sevco next in the league after our cup game this weekend.

Rangers and Hibs both entered this round, so I'd imagine the pair of them are fine, barring any suspensions carried over from last season, which seems doubtful.
